Will I Lose Weight?

Morning,

Today is the day I have decided to lose weight!
I have read the forum and gathered as much information on what I should do, however I still have a few questions and hopefully you all can help.

I am going to state what I will eat and what exercise I will do, so if you see anything that i am doing wrong, please let me know.

My aim, at the minute, is just to lose weight, i will start doing weights etc when i have lost abit of fat.
I really struggle with going to the gym as i see it as a chore!

My soccer training always starts at 7pm...

  • Should I eat dinner at 5:30pm or have it after training at 8pm? Ive always wondered if its bad to eat that late at night.
  • Should I just have a snack at 5:30pm?
  • Should I start having protein shakes after my Soccer training or should I leave them until i start weight training?

That is as much information as i have gathered. Any advice is really appreciated.

Hello Chubbymole, to answer your questions; I would suggest you eat your dinner at 5:30pm and I wouldn't suggest you start having protein shakes right now if your just trying to lose fat because since the protein is for your muscles you don't really need all that extra protein when your not weight training yet. Your diet and exercise plans look good so if you stick to this you will definately start losing weight! Good luck.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies. I have some new information and questions that require your help if possible.

I have weighed myself properly this morning and I am actually about 196lbs. Still big for my height.

Yesterday I only ate a total of 873 calories. I understand this is not enough, however I don't know how to work out how many I should eat to lose weight. Different websites with calculators tell me different amounts. Is there a formula I should work to?

  • Should I just eat more of the good stuff to get my calories up?
  • Should i start adding more fats, for example a 15ml spoon of low fat mayo with my salad?
  • Am I not eating enough carbohydrates? I was told to limit my carbs to barely nothing to lose weight.
  • Should i eat carbs if i am going soccer training? How long before i go training?
  • What should i eat after training, 8pm ish, if anything at all?

To answer above. The exercise is what i sometimes do but not every week!
I am going to start to do that every week and try and incorporate some small runs on my rest days.

Hope you can answer my questions.

Hi Guys,

Ive just found on this website how to work out how many calories i should eat, however it seems alot.

Its apparently:
Men: BMR = 66 + ( 6.23 x weight in pounds ) + ( 12.7 x height in inches ) - ( 6.8 x age in year )

So:
66 + (6.23 x 196) + (12.7 X 64) - (6.8 X 24) = 937 x 1.2 (very light activity) = 2325 calories.

So even with a deficit of 500 calories, i would still need to eat 1825.

I only ate 873 yesterday and think i would find it hard to eat 1825.
Should i just do it by eating good foods?
Double my portions?

Hope you can help
Regards

Should I eat dinner at 5:30pm or have it after training at 8pm? Ive always wondered if its bad to eat that late at night.

It dinner whenever it suits. There's nothing wrong with eating late at night.

Should I just have a snack at 5:30pm?

If that works for you.

Should I start having protein shakes after my Soccer training or should I leave them until i start weight training?

You want plenty of protein in your diet. Whether that comes from shakes or real food is a relatively minor detail (nutritionally speaking), although I've found that protein shakes are much less filling than solid protein-rich food.

Is there a formula I should work to?

Start with 10-12kcal/lb bodyweight. So, weighing 196lb, start out with about 2,000kcal/day, and adjust from there.

Should I just eat more of the good stuff to get my calories up?

Sounds good to me.

Should i start adding more fats, for example a 15ml spoon of low fat mayo with my salad?

Sounds good to me. Try to avoid trans fats (which can generally be avoided by sticking to the foods your great-grandmother would have recognised as food), but other than that, dietary fat isn't so bad, in fact it has various benefits.

Am I not eating enough carbohydrates? I was told to limit my carbs to barely nothing to lose weight.

Complex carbs are good. Some simple carbs are good, too. It's my opinion that out of fat, protein and carbs, carbs are the food you can play around with the most in the amounts you consume, but to antagonise them to the point of removing them from the diet is not in your best interests.

Should i eat carbs if i am going soccer training? How long before i go training?

Yes. You should have some sort of carbohydrate (mostly complex carbs) in most meals. Exactly how long you should consume anything in particular before sports is individual. Somewhere between 30min and 2 hours tends to work well for most people. There are outliers, though. I can drink 2 cups of milk 15min before intense training and be fine. I have a friend who can't eat anything for about 5 hours before training.

What should i eat after training, 8pm ish, if anything at all?

More complex carbs and protein; fruit and/or vegetables; real food.

Of course we will lose our weight with help of exercise and proper diet food. Here you people shared nice calculation and benefits of weight loss. I have never seen this type of information about calories. I wish that I will take this diet plan.
