Will I break the gym equipment

I'm 330lbs and I would like to join a gym. There is a 24 hour fitness about a block from my home and I think this gym would be the one I would pick. I broke my stationary recumbent bike yesterday the weld that holds the pedal peice on snapped. I'm not sure if it was because of my weight or because I've been riding it 2 hours a day for the last month.

Anyway what I'd like to know is does anyone know of any problems someone my weight experiences in a gym? Any feedback will be more than welcomed.

When I started at my gym I weighed around 425 lbs. I didn't have any issues with equipment breaking/bending/snapping, etc. The equipment that most gyms use is high quality/manufactured equipment. I've used True, Pre-Cor, Stat-Trac and LifeFitness and they all are well-built machines.

When I was researching treadmills, I found that the only one's that went up to my weight capacity were those hi-end expensive models like True and Pre-Cor. The stuff you by at Sears and Dicks Sporting Goods is not really meant for people much over 320 pounds. A $700 treadmill won't last as long for a 350 pound person as a $2300 True treadmill would.

I wouldn't worry at all about damaging the equipment at a gym. Good luck to your weight loss and exercise program!

BTW....I use to live in the Valley of the Sun myself. 7th St and Paradise Lane in Moon Valley. I miss that area a lot.

I wouldn't concern yourself with breaking gym equipment either. Riding bike 2 hours each and every day. Seems excessive. Have you ever considered throwing some resistance training into the mix?

I always say if you have to do THAT much cardio in order to lose weight.... something is off nutritionally.

I have been doing resistance training I just enjoy the cardio and how ripped my legs look because of it. Is it counterproductive to do that much cardio with a resistance program? I've been careful to not loose more that 2 to 3 lbs a week because I want long term progress.

Would love to help you get started...

Happened upon your post today and I'm a Senior Vice President with 24 Hour Fitness and we'd love to be of assistance in helping you along on your journey. We have some great trainers that certainly can help you map out the path that makes the most sense for you. I'd be very happy to arrange a 90 day free pass to that club close by your house as well as get you connected with a top trainer to see if that is something that would work for you. My email address is rdrake@24hourfit.com and just drop me a note if you'd like. Best of luck!

drakesplace, that is such a great offer, I hope he takes you up on it!!! I'd do it if I could LOL. I just dont have child care available to me. I really want to lose the weight and want a trainer who will push me. I havent heard any complaints about 24 hr fitness.

Thank you so much drakesplace I would love a 90 day free pass to that 24hr fitness. I'm interested in a trainer as well because I have no idea how to use the exercise equipment. Thank you so much I'm sending you an email now. You really saved my life and now I feel like I can actually do it this time.

Dear Friend

You only concentrate on your weight and let gym concentrate on their equipment
