Will HIIT work if you have a slow metabolism?

Will it work if you have a slow metabolism? Will it have faster results if you are a vegetarian? What if you eat nothing but raw veggies and fruit and do HIIT 3 days a week combined with regular cardio and weight training? Can some changes be seen within the first week of doing HIIT? Just wondering if somebody can help me out here?

Only if you want to die.

You probably have a "slow metabolism" because you have a crappy diet.

If you don't eat anything but raw veggies and fruit and do HIIT 3 times a week, you won't be able to complete 15 minutes of HIIT. HIIT is anaerobic and muscle-building and brutal. If you're doing it correctly, you won't be able to do it more than twice a week. You will also need to eat more protein.

HIIT should not be done more than twice a week, especially if you are doing weight training.

Where is the protein in your diet? You don't have any. Your body composition is probably skin, bone and fat because you've been cannibalizing your muscle tissue for the past few years as a result of having a crappy diet.

Furthermore, if you think you are going to see changes that fast, you're simply setting yourself up for failure. Getting into shape is not an overnight thing. You need to be patient.

indubidably, anywho doing the vegetarian is a difficult rout, if you consider to become a lacto-OVO-vegetarian then yes loosing weight will be faster and healthy. if you do decide to keep on the vegi rout get some good multi-vitamin, and make sure to have health insurance... I would expect some changes after about the first 2-3 months of riggous trainning, and a caloric deficit, lots of water, and a best you can do diet.
note: nothing against full on vegans but staying healthy is a full time job in and of it'self.

Only if you consider muscle loss to be healthy. And you won't lose as much fat as you think you are. You can be "skinny-fat" and be very unhealthy.

Quote from John Berardi website:

"In their studies, subjects weight trained for twelve weeks while consuming a 2300kcal diet consisting of 70-90gP (12-15%), 267-317gC (49%), and 82-87gF (7-11%). The only difference between groups was the fact that one group ate a meat-free diet while the other group ate meat. At the end of the twelve weeks, the meat eaters lost 2.8lbs of fat while gaining 3.74lbs of lean tissue. The vegetarians, on the other hand, lost no fat weight and lost 1.76lbs of lean tissue. Bottom line, meat seems to be an essential part of the diet."

Don't even consider doing HIIT training unless you can pound back a minimum of 4oz (113gms) of protein afterwards and eat a decent meal about an hour beforehand (one that includes protein).

yep i know, but if she is willing to go lacto ovo-vegi then that studie is out the window. this being milk /egg products being OK, they can do quite well, and be a huge improvment from a totall non-animal products

I eat beans btw I did forget to mention that and I juice with rice protein, it has essential amino acids and protein. I hope to see a major change in a month.

I went vegetarian after I blew up to 200 i lost weight down to 160 and hit a plateau. I have been doing steady cardio and it's not helping. I need HIIT but I have a slow metabolism. Hmmm well some say I can't blame metabolism and that HIIT is guaranteed to work. Hopefully if not in a month by Christmas I wanna look damn good.

Did my first HIIT session at 10pm tonight and it's now 12:20 my lungs are still weazy, I can't laugh or breath too much.

How do I know if I am doing this right?
Is it supposed to stimulate your gag reflexes, burn your lungs, make you want to stop after 5 mins, and make you feel over heated all over? I don't know if this results from the intensity but it was very intense.

I sprinted on the treadmill so fast for 20-30 secs and I rested one minuet I did this 7 or 8 times within a 20 min span of time along with a 3 min cool down?

So you don't eat any animal products. It's going to be very hard for you to gain muscle mass and lose fat.

How long have you been working out?

HIIT is not something I'd recommend for people who have just started to train.

I've been working out for some time now and I have been a vegetarian for a year. No animal products just beans nuts and my rice protein. My calf muscles are very built but the rest of me needs work. That's because I didn't understand alot of fitness techniques and the science behind exercise. Tonight was my second night of HIIT, I feel like vomiting at the moment. And I know this is bad but I don't eat enough calories since I eat mostly raw fruits and vegetables. No soy for me it made me gain a little weight and it's the worse protein ever.

I am going to throw in some avocados, more nuts and eat whole grains like brown rice and quinoa. That's all I need. If being vegetarian helped me lose 60 lbs when I was 200lbs then I am sure HIIT can help me over my plateau. I hope it can since I have a slow metabolism. That's why I made this thread to find out if it really helps if you have a slow metabolism.
