Will HIIT help become a faster runner/sprinter?

I play softball/soccer, but mostly softball right now (trying out for the college team) and I need to become a faster sprinter to the ball going back for it and going forward to get it before touching the ground, and also sprinting around the bases to be safe.

I just want to know that if I start the program if it will really help me with it? I found a url to use for the program from someone in another thread with the beginner level for a few weeks, then intermediate, then advance.
beginner - running, sprinting, walking.
intermediate - sprinting and walking.
advance - running and sprinting.

Yes yes yes yes yes!!!!!!!

HITT will make you a better sprinter because you'll be sprinting not jogging.

If you really want to get faster you must start weight training to build up the strength in your legs. The HITT will help your technique and fitness but the strength will get you faster.

Yes it will, my coach told us it will help build fast twitch muscle fibers (along with some plyometrics of course). It will also help your body get used to running and such.. Here is what you need to incorporate in your training program to get faster

1.) STRENGTH (squats, deads RDLs, lunges, step-ups, leg press, calve raises)
2.) RESISTENCE (running with resistence like ankle weights or parachutes)
3.) OVERSPEED (running down a hill so your body learns to run faster then usual)
4.) AGILITY (cone drills, agility latters)
5.) ACCELERATION (hurdles, opening up your stride)
6.) PLOYMETRICS (to build you fast twitch muscle fibers used for sprinting)
7.) HIIT (will burn off some unneeded fat. Go outside and run with a 10 pounds plate, A BIG difference).

That should help. That got my 40 yard time from a 5.48 to a 5.25 in 2 monthes and my diet sucked pretty muc so I probably could have gotten alot better. Good Luck!
