Wii will lose weight

It just came to me that playing the Nintendo Wii is probably good for just getting active and havin' a fun time doin' it :jump:

I'm thinking about playing in a second cause you can get a sweat going playing tennis and boxing lol

do any of you guys know anything about what playing the Wii is for you? like how many calories you can lose for playing for like a half an hour or something along those lines?

I borrowed Eye Toy for the PS2 from my boyfriend and all the wiping windows and punching things got me sweaty. I think these kind of games are good :D It's a win win situation!

ps2? did it have a diffent controller like Guitar Hero (FUN game btw)

PS3 i know has motion senses in the controllers so those work too but i think the Wii uses it more

Yeah, nintendo stole my idea of an interactive, workout slash exercise machine, and they wont even pay me. It needs better games though, the only game that uses both controllers is boxing.

Oh btw, any of you tried the punching bag boxing in training mode? it's the best. I think I got to 42 last time... haven't played in a while as it is back home.

I can see this platform leading to chronic over-use injuries.

Repetitive motion, especially the kind done by still developing adolescence who play video games for hours on end, isn't wise IMO.

I dunno, seems better than kids sitting in front of a regular game console fiddling with little buttons repeatedly. If the games/controllers were made specifically with exercise in mind, i'm sure they could be made pretty fun and at the same time beneficial. I mean is moving your hands in a boxing motion not just as repetitive as, say, situps?

Ummm....

Do you know any kid (or anyone for that matter) that does sit-ups for hours on end?

Didn't think so.

While I agree, it gets people moving a *bit* more..... big whoop.

If you really want to burn a significant amount of calories while playing a game.... go play dance dance revolution. Never tried it myself.... but watched some mall geeks do it and I promise that burns a lot more calories than swinging around your arms frantically.

Better yet, go play some sports out in that green stuff.....

Yea, that's grass.

My smart-ass reply is not directed at anyone in particular.

Just society in general.

I agree. It's still a step forward though. It requires the person to stand up and make it a bit more interactive, rather than sitting in front of the tv without getting up for hours.

It is better to go outside and actually play though.

what, sure! There's Jimmy.. and.. um.. yeah, that's a good point.

I do have to commend Nintendo for the wii though. Considering that they must have known that people will be stupid and punch themselves in the eye, throw controllers at people, break household items, play it so much that they get repetitive-strain injuries, etc. and sue their asses off, I'm surprised any company would risk it at all.

problem is most kids wont play dance dance revolution, they want to play Zena and such.

You'd be surprised by wii boxing though- i've played that till I was totally exhausted and even slightly asthmatic - I usually stop before that happens, but it was just so addictive. Getting me exhausted isn't such a big feat, but I was taking turns with my dad, and he's a really fit guy who does lots of physical work a day, and he got winded by it too.

The beauty of it is that you'll forget all about your muscles starting to feel tired when you're concentrating on hitting the punching bags in the right rhythm.

I think this aspect could be used in other ways. Say, having a bunch of exercise bicycles in a gym that are linked up, and when more than one person is riding, they're in a simulated marathon together. Ad a little strategy, like being able to knock the other person off the trail or shoot at them or whatever, and half an hour on the bike will fly by much quicker.

I sure played Zena for hours.. until I got to that damn place with the horse and the wagon that keeps burning and just could not get past that... :(

though I get your point, it's not a serious gamer's console.

It's commonsense the games where your active with wii last 5-10 mins per game so they can pick up and play. On the other hand with the 360 and ps3 the games actually gave depth and last a good ammount of time. Watch the video game convention known as e3 and thats what everyone was saying wii is winning the console wars because it's for casual gamers its getting more people involved in games then ever before. I am sure there is some polls somewhere just use google.

yeah, smart move for nintendo. They made a console that really does appeal to the entire family. for instance my parents would never have bought a gaming console for us for xmas- but this was different.

No thanks.

I really don't care.
