Why is eating in moderation sooo hard?

I found something that will fill you up as a snack that has some substance - try 1/2 cup of cooked oatmeal (plain) with your favorite sugar free, low fat yogurt (1/2 cup) mixed in. Yummm.

Your issue does seem emotional and MANY of us on the forum have a problem using food for comfort or boredom, me included (only for boredom though). But sometimes cutting back on the carbs can have an effect that allows you to gain some control over the food. This has been my experience if I really cant get control. By low carb I mean lots of meat, cheese, eggs and veggies only. If you ate that way for about 2 days I suspect you would feel a change in your appetite. Then maybe try keeping the carbs lowish from there to avoid the sugar cravings. The carbs like breads, cookies, candy, chips. I'm not doing a low carb diet or anything but I've just noticed certain foods fuel my appetite and others dont.

Thanks for that ^^^. I'm going to try to implement this in my dieting endeavors.

i DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME...I WILL NOT LET MYSELF STOP EATING...THIS PAST TWO WEEKS HAVE BEEN TERRIBLE...THE MORE I SAY THAT I'M GOING TO EAT LESS, JOURNAL, LOG IN AND CHAT...THE HARDER IT GETS FOR ME TO STOP PUTTING THINGS IN MY BODY AT THE WRONG TIME....EMOTIONAL EATING IS A KILLER:banghead:

hu i have the same problem:cry:
even if i try to stop eating high calorie foods also i can stay for only a day or two. i never understand how can i avoid eating them

I couldn't either for most of my life. I wish I had a clearer picture myself of what made me able to change that but even having done it it's a little unclear for me.

I was depressed and ate for that reason most of my life. Emotional eater I guess.

I think the best I can describe it is turning a negative into a positive.

I was obsessed with eating, so instead I talked myself into it and got fed up enough with where I was at to become obsessed with eating better. A routine helped. Always having meals at the same time every day, not skipping breakfast. Eventually I've gotten to the point where I am the opposite, I feel upset with myself if I don't follow my routine and take in too many calories in a day.

Another thing that I find is helpful is out of sight out of mind.

Simply put do not leave snack foods laying around or even have them in the house for that matter. If something is sitting out on the counter that you can dig into without even thinking it's so easy to do it without a second thought. Likewise when it comes to cooking, cook only the portion size that you need, don't give yourself an option, if there are leftovers in the fridge or you cook twice as much as you need you are just making it hard on yourself to restrain and not finish it off.

When I think about eating something I know I shouldn't I try to focus on how much it's going to set me back. Knowing what it takes to burn calories versus how much are in an object helps. If you know that the doughnut that looks so tasty is 300 calories and that it basically wipes out an hour of being on the treadmill for you it can help make the connection as to what it's going to cost you.

I dunno, hope that is of some help at least.

I really think the moderation problem is due to our countries eating culture.
Most of our portions everywhere are four or five times bigger than they should be.
ALso, I really don't think that we take enough time to eat. It takes about a half hour for your brian to realize your stomach is saying "I'M Full!" Taking smaller bites and not shoveling food down would really help the weight thing

Natural Juices:
Fresh fruit juices are an excellent source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. It is also a good way to consume nutrients own fruit, but is not appropriate all day drinking juice in place of natural fruit, as we are losing many of the nutrients remaining in the pulp and more importantly, they have fiber.

Furthermore, the whole fruit has a lower glycemic index than their juice, absorbed more slowly and have less impact on blood glucose.

Cheese:
Cheese is not only the coagulated whey, and according to the period of rest is reached more or less hard product.

The cheeses are a healthy food to be a source of calcium and protein quality are the ideal food to enrich the diet of those who eat no meat, but we must not forget that hard cheeses are high in fat and that weight is increased by having lower water content, so we can be in short supply including up to 50 grams of fat.

Therefore, we should not stop eating cheese in our diet, but portion control, because if it is a healthy food, you can not eat a kilo of cheese a day. On the other hand, my advice is to opt for those cooler or higher water content, such as ricotta, cheese spreads, Tybo, path or other similar varieties of cheese.

Well, so here I give you 3 meals that are healthy but should be used sparingly to achieve a varied diet full, but balanced which delivers all the nutrients they need in adequate amounts.

We must not confuse healthy food that does not contribute calories, which can be consumed in unlimited quantities or eat much more healthier it will be.

Yes I agee. because we have so many varities of food 2day Everyone is out 2 try & make new items, too many fast food & takeaways. We tend to 4get to follow the sunnah when eating u no 1/4 for ur food, then we also 4get that we r answerable even 4 our food we eat. we also eat more then we burn( work). We don't follow the Adaab of eating so I guess there r many

Maybe because of too much tension or stress that's why your eating too much. It's not a healthy habbit it may lead you to overweight or obesity. Why don't you try yoga?

I've found eating low carb for a day or two minimizes my appetite. Once I start eating sweets and carbs, my appetite is fueled and I have trouble stopping. Maybe try that for a few days and see if it has that effect for you.

I agree, I am on Phase 1 of the south beach diet and the idea is to only allow yourself the carbs with the least sugar, the most nutrition, and fiber and that limits it down to just veggies for the first two weeks. The idea is to get your body to stop craving crap and getting your body chemistry back to normal. If you stop eating the carbs for a few days cravings are gone, and it makes it way easier to say "no, thanks" to those guilty little pleasures such as candy bars, loafs of bread and the like. I am a major chocoholic and everyother time I have tried to diet I craved the stuff, but 4 days of being on the SBD and I don't think twice about chocolate or anything else with refined sugar, I just don't feel like I need it!

Its not as difficult as you think it to be. You just need the determination then it will become easier. I think the main thing for you is changing the way you think about food. Often we "live to eat".. but we need to change that feeling to an "eat to live" and enjoy in moderation mentality.

Your body has a hard time eating small portions because your body is used to not being given proper nutrition and is constantly craving more food to try and get the nutrition it desperately needs. When your body gets the proper nutrition and vitamins it needs, your hunger and cravings will go away. Portion control comes naturally and your weight will begin to fall as too much food intake will be a thing of the past. after just 11 weeks of making sure my body is getting the proper nutritional, I have lost almost 70lbs and not restricted WHAT I wanted to eat or starved myself. My body has naturally adjusted the portions it needs and wants to the point I am dropping pounds quickly and safely.

soooo, you lost over 6lbs a week for 11 wks and your saying thats healthy?? I don't think do.

I've done some looking around at your zija and it sounds like a scam to me. FYI we dont' take to well to spammers around here if thats what you have in mind.

Zija, A scam?? Howso?? Because it has the National Institutes of Health research and approval behind it?? Because John Hopkins University, the worlds most renowned nutritionist, and leading pharmacologists research and support behind it as well??

Zija is PURE NUTRITION. Nothing more. It gives over 90+ vitamins and nutrients, and ALL the amino acids, several of which are no longer found in the food chain...and ALL are 100% absorbable by the body. When you give your body the proper nutrition and vitamins it is lacking, your food cravings will end and your body will adjust it needs and food intake naturally.

My entire family has lost weight and are healthier than we have ever been.

My dad come off of his Blood Pressure medications and 2000 mg of metformin a day for his diabetes in 6 weeks. His doctor told him it was 100% safe, All natural and could NEVER hurt him. He has lost almost 40lbs in the process.

My mom has lost nearly 30 lbs. Come of of pain meds for arthritis, and her bloodwork shows her cholesterol and trygl's are at an all time low.

My sister, the ultimate skeptic, finally started it and in 3 weeks lost over 21 lbs.

My wife and grandmother has had similar results.

Is "spamming" is trying to help people, who like myself, struggled with their weight and weightloss for most of their life, then sorry...I will keep "spamming".

You claim fast weightloss isnt healthy, yet people who have gastric bypass lose double that much the first few months... And talk about not being healthy.... I haven't seen any risks of death with Zija. lol.

Did you know several former Biggest Loser Contestants are now using Zija and are seeing the rapid weight loss they had at the ranch that they had gained back come off again..NATURALLY.

Again....Please show how Zija is a scam when I have personally met HUNDREDS of people who have seen their weight reduced and health improve.

Again I ask....WHy the hostile attitude and false accusations against me?? Is this how you treat everyone who comes on to your site excited about their weightloss and new healthy lifestyle??

No, that is how we treat spammers.

You see, on this forum we are very much about healthy weight loss. And most people have a very clear opinion about weight loss supplements/programs/whatever.

You are clearly advocating the use of your product, and it isn't difficult to tell that you're trying to get people to use it. Which would, of course, include buying it from you. Which makes you a spammer.

So now that that's out of the way, after a quick look around the internet I think it is safe to say that Zija is no different than hoodia or all those countless other 'weight loss miracles' that are trying to make money out of people, while trying to recruit 'distributors' at the same time.

We've had this on this discussion with countless people before, and the outcome was always the same.

If the stuff worked for you, fine. Congrats to you. And your family. But if you make any attempts to sell it here, or it becomes obvious that you are only here to market your product, you will be removed from the forum for spamming. Simple.

I once had a woman tell me that after eating one potato chip, she was satisfied, and she couldn't understand why I couldn't stop at one chip. I'm usually not satisfied with one bag!

I have to sanitize my house and I can't bring those foods that I can't resist into the house. Moderation might work for some, but not for me!

this was the problem i also was facing but what i do whenever i feel hungry or what instead of eating unhealthy food i ate healthy food which was useful for my health then slowly slowly i reduced my diet it had helped me a lot

Temptation is another reason why it is hard to control eating. Food chains and TV commercials advertise delicious and mouth-watering foods. Discipline and control are the key to these temptations. Choose alternative healthy food choices or eat moderately to nourish the body. For the emotional eater, try talking to someone your feelings to prevent pouring out your emotions over food.

This is an old thread and I don't know if the tread starter is even still around. But since it looks like people still post in here once every couple of months, I thought I would add my 2 cents. In addition to eating more protein and healthy fats, a good trick for emotional eating is gum. At times when I know my "hunger" is actually boredom, I chew gum. Not only does it keep me from putting other food in my mouth, but it actually tricks my body into thinking that I'm eating and the cravings diminish. Helps get me by on those days when I feel like a bottomless pit. Oh, and one stick is usually 5 calories tops, if not 0.
