Why don't diets work. We cant all be compulsive overeaters.
Why doesn't counting calories work if it did we would all be slim.
Even if some diet pills work you cant take them long term.
The core cause of why so many people are overweight and no matter what they do they find it very difficult to lose their extra weight remains largely overweight.

I was on holiday in Portugal this year and it was difficult to find a British person over 20 years old who wasn't overweight. It was exactly the opposite for the Portugese they seemed as a nation to be slim.

I've been to the states afew times California,Nevada Florida a very large proportion of the population is overweight.

Why?

Thats because there are not nearly as many fast food resturants in Portugal than there are in America. Also American food tends to be cheaper, so does food in the UK. Once again, we have loads of fast food resturants.
Dieting works perfectly, maybe not for you but you cant say they dont work just because they dont for you. Counting calories is the most important thing to a diet. And it all works fine if you are dedicated.

Diets themselves don't work long term, unless a person changes their eating habits completely...

Too many times I've heard people say, and I've probably said it myself too, that when i'm off my diet I will have..... (something that isn't allowed on their diet)

What does work is a lifestyle change.. where you can fit in most everything into your food plan... and you aren't depriving youself of anything.. but you are staying within your calorie range for the day.

The porto diet is a lot of fish, vegetables, olive oil... not a lot of stuff is deep fried and the portions are reasonable sizes.. Portions in restaurants here, are enough to feed two or more people.. but there are people who would complain if their portions were cut down.. because they want value. (when applebees started the weight watchers menu items, customers complained that the portions were sooo small... :D

Counting calories, by and large, does work, but sometimes it's very difficult to do.. people guesstimate thier calories and often come up wrong...
