hi all - i seem to have a huge problem losing weight, whatever I do I can't seem to lose it, though I apparently eat a very low calorie content -

I'm a 36 yr old female, I weigh 177 lbs, and have weighed in the high 170's for what seems like forever -

i eat roughly 1520 calories a day religiously, my diet is usually :

breakfast - flavored instant oatmeal (160)
yogurt smoothie (70)

snack - 1 luna bar (180)

lunch - sandwich - either turkey/cheese/mayo or pb&j on whole-wheat bread (both about 440)
string cheese (70)

snack - apple (100)
string cheese (70)

dinner - lean cuisine (250)

snack - 1 luna bar (180)

i drink water, but probably not enough

i have a pretty sedentary office job but I exercise 3-4 times a week about 30 minutes of walking on a treadmill (I have asthma since childhood and can't run without problems)

what am i doing wrong?? nothing seems to help!

sorry forgot to add I'm 5'4 and in generally good health except for the asthma - no other complications with my health that I know of, though my blood pressure can get high when I am stressed - thanks!

Hi mrsh
it can be water gain you would be surprised how much we retain water
also since you excercise it could be muscles try measureing 1 time a week and xsee if you see a difference in your measurements also
have you had your throid checked? that can create weight gain/loss

Mrsh: Hi there! I have asthma as well...though probably not as bad as you. I can actually stop my asthma attacks (most of the times it's in my head) by concentrating on my breathing. Anyway, I find that if I'm having trouble breathing if I sit in front of a fan or air conditioner I breathe easier. Maybe you can stick a fan in front or on top of your treadmill so that you're lungs are getting lots of fresh air---that might help you to push your workout a little bit more. Also, I find that I don't breathe nearly as hard on a stationary bike as I do on a treadmill for some reason (maybe cause my torso isn't moving as much).

Ok, now I put your specs into my fitday account. Your lifestyle (office work) and naturally burned calories per day (basal) are about 2702. You're calories intake per day is 1500 calories, that means you burn off 1200 calories per day without exercising and probably burn off 1500 calories on the days that your exercise...so here's the math.

Calories your body uses through existance per week: 7 days x 2702 = 18914
Calories you eat: 7 days x 1500 = 10500

Alrighty:
18914-10500= 8414 calories you should lose each week which equals about 2.5 pounds.

All the numbers seem to work in favor of you losing weight... I really don't know why you're not. Are you drinking soley water? No juice or soda...they would add calories as well. How long have you been trying to lose weight? If it's been a significant amount of time I would go to the doctor....see what s/he says. Can you drop the calories for a week and see what happens...maybe go to a 1200 calorie diet?

Good luck! *crosses fingers*

are you using a food journal to track your nutrients - your sodium level is one it would be interesting to see - especially since you say you probably don't drink enough water... a lot of foods you have on your list are high in sodium so you could be retaining water... easiest way to get rid of that water, oddly enough - is to drink more.

Based on calculations I've seen elsewhere on the net, you should be drinking 1/2 your body weight in ounces in water a day... which is about 88 ounces of water a day.. not really all that much.. if you pace yourself with it- it's easily do able.. make sure you always have water with you...
