Hello! This is my first time ever posting in a forum. I'm kind of getting frustrated with what's going on with my body, probably because I don't understand what it's doing. So....hoping for some advice and knowledge with with what's up. -- Thank you.

I started working out about a week ago. I've been strength training (dead lifts, squats, assisted pull ups, declined sit ups with a medicine ball (and other core exercises), abduction adduction, etc, and kick boxing. Also recently added some cardio. I've been eating healthy, more healthy than I have in the past. Quit smoking. Drinking tons more water...and only water (vs the juices and other sugary stuff)

and yet... here I am, 5'6.5", Female, and NOW unable to fit into my size 1 jeans.
I'm sure I've gained some weight through muscle...but seriously, if anything I thought I was going to maintain my size...lose fat, gain muscle kind of deal (maybe even get smaller in a few areas...not that I want to get smaller, I just want to look more defined)

Like I said my calorie intake is great. I'm not over exceeding my caloric intake (I was worse a week ago). I'm eating healthier and incorporating some protein shake as well (half scoop to a full scoop depending on how hard my strength train is after the work out)

What am I doing wrong? Is my body freaking out...? Because I'm starting to...really don't want to have to buy a whole new wardrobe.

AI didn't hear anything about cardio ... you want to lose fat, you need cardio. Essentially you are growing muscle underneath any fat you have. Being a size 1, it won't take much extra muscle to push you up to the next size, if you aren't proportionally losing fat.

I'm not sure the best way to do it though. I've heard that to gain muscle I need to strength train, eat more protein and eat more calories in general (I've done all the above, just eating an amount of calories I'm comfortable with). Should I incorporate more cardio...and will that affect my muscle gain?

AAre you trying to build a lot of muscle? or tone up and get some definition?

If you are just trying to build muscle you won't see huge decreases in your waist line because that fat is replaced with muscle which pretty much weigh's the same amount.

You need to mix it up. There is nothing wrong with doing cardio and strength training just don't beat yourself up if you don't shrink a size in 1 week.. Like everything in life, the best things are worth waiting for and you need to work at it. You are on the right track to meeting your goals you just need to add some cardio in and try not to get frustrated if you don't see immediate results. Life doesn't work like that and neither do our bodies.

AHey Alexandria, welcome to the forum!

I'm pretty sure 1 week isn't enough time to see much in terms of changes, especially any significant muscle gain. If you had been working out for a much longer period of time and doing high volume training, then I might think that you've gained muscle size... but one week is not enough time for that. I would suggest that you give yourself more time for your body to adapt to the changes to your exercise and diet. I'm willing to bet that things will settle if you stick with the healthy changes... just be patient :)
