Who knows how to prevent foot cramps?

I have lost approx 15 lbs since September, and now get the excruciating foot cramps - at odd times, like sitting on the couch, and just now, while pedaling my exercise bike.........

I thought some sort of mineral or vitamin would prevent them, but all I saw online was to take calcium supplements, which I started doing a few days ago (and actually that search engine lead me to this site, which i really like)!

anyone have advice for me?
 
I've had that happen. Actually I used to get cramps when I worked construction, mostly leg and foot cramps, but I have also gotten a foot cramp while using a stationary bike. I can say with some certainty that the cause of the stationary bike cramp for me was lack of proper stretching. I don't know why I used to get them after work, but I did learn that the best thing to do when you get them is relax. Relax, relax, relax. Then slowly masage the area until the pain goes away.
