Which martial art?

Be careful not to get involved with a “Belt Mill”, if that is what one would call it. My son’s school passes out belts like a schoolteacher passes out cookies.

My son has been taking TKD for several months. I have come to find out that they are turning out Black Belts at a very rapid rate. None of the Black Belts from this school could fight their way out of a wet paper bag.

I watched the belt tests one night. I was shocked. They have everything under a Black Belt out on the floor taking tests at the same time. It is a joke.

I have a deep concern that these people, including my son, are getting a false sense of toughness. I am about to pull my son out and get him interested in another sport. I don’t want him thinking that a having a Black Belt means being able to defend himself if this is all that this school is going to turn out.

If you have any suspicion that your kid is in a belt factory... Then get him out of there..

It's just so harrd for ppl to distinguish the difference out there!.

and like ppl have said, unless you're prepared to do a whoole lot of research and networking and so on, that iis likely what you're going to find in mst places.

I say that you should just keep him at it. He might pick up a few bad habits and so on but if he's sincerely interested then nodoubt he will find something closer to his needs later down the track.

And he maintains a reasonable fitness condition in the meantime ..

I personally teach my daughter myself for lack of good teachers and have since she was tiiny. but failing having luxury of doing that,... I would just be stoked to keep it in her head really.
and teach her the value of doing something well ( and finding out what that is).. and how to fish for one's self.

I kind of figure the rest 'll just sort itself out.

Blooming Lotus.
