In terms of how many calories can be burned in the same set amount of time, running will burn more. However, with activities such as walking and biking, even though less calories are burned per minute, people can do them for longer periods of time and thus, burn more calories overall.

Keep in mind that it would take a LOT of walking to equal the benefits of a run.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks ;) I will go with walking because that's the only exercise I can do for that long.. At least for know..

You could go on the treadmill, set it up to a 15% gradient, turn it up to a nice walking pace (about 6.0kmp/h) and do that for about half an hour. It burns off several hundred calories, maintains a cardio zone heart rate, and works up a nice sweat, making the other gym rats think it's more strenuous work than it really is. Trust me, with headphones plugged in and a rhythmic pace, it's a lot easier than it may feel at first.

And cycling is quite easy to get into, if you fancy going exploring. You'll cover surprising distances when you find out that you're lost ;)

Both are good form of cardio. But which one would burn more energy depend on couple of things. In fact, a 145-lb person can burn 300 calories by running at 5.2 mph for 30 minutes. The same person would burn about half of that with a brisk walk.

Walking is another great choice for cardio because, like running, it's accessible. It's harder to get your heart rate up with walking since it's low impact but, if you work hard at it, a 145-lb person can burn about 180 calories in 30 minutes.

Adding hills, speed walking or using walking poles can also increase the intensity. Definitely when you would increase intensity it would burn more calorie. That is as simple as that.
