which bench to get?????

what do you guys think about this bench? it has less features than the second one and it has a safety feature so u dont need a spotter for doing bench presses.

And the 2nd bench.

well the bench im gonna buy has to be from a local fitness store and i dont wanna buy online. so can someone please help me decide which one to get?
three stores im looking at are..........

Thanks

The ones from Sears look pretty cheap (as in they scare me).

The fitnessdepot one looks good to me and the powertec would be alright...but on second thought, get you one of these

You'd get by with an adjustable bench for the power rack. The power rack is a great thing for activities like push press and squating. Newbie or not, a power rack is a great thing to have.

Evo - What do you mean by power rack. We dont use that name in england. Is it the Smith machine or the std rack?

I'd choose the normal rack over a smith machine anyday. And no, its not a safety feature, It just stops you from learning how to control the weight.

yeah, thats what this guy should go for.

So you Americans just had to put the work "POWER" in front of "rack" just to make it sound better, but really its just a rack yeah?

Well in England we have something even better, Its called a Mega Rack!!!!

so a power rack is basically just for squating and push press? what can you do with a power rack that you cant do on a bench? like what exercises is a power rack meant for?

A "POWER RACK" , or "rack" as we call them is the metal frame that you lift the barbell from.

Many benches (like the one at the top of the page) have racks attached to them. You can use that one for bench pressing and shoulder pressing. And extra feature on that particular rack is that you can raise the pegs (what the bar sits on) and turn them around. Therefore you have a rack holding the barbell over the floor at shoulder hight. This is for squatting.

So racks can be used for many things, depending on the poistions they adgust to.

If it goes high enough you can also use it as a chin up bar.

from a "Moms" point of view, its safe to have a smith machine.

But in reality you need the fredom of freeweights to strengthen you. Your body will learn how to control the weight.
If your worried about the weight falling on you, then there is more chance of you dropping the weight with a smitch machine, because you have to twist the bar, there is more chance of it sliping out your hand cos you have to pick it up and put it down useing un-natural wrist movements.

With a free bar bell, if it falls on you, you can tilt the weights off by letting go with one hand, it will hit the floor, then you can push it over. You cant do that with a smith, you have to push the bar up to the next peg.

I have been lifting with a barbell for 2 years, some of the guys have been lifting for many many years, I doubt any of them hav been damaged by a barbell.

because nobody is responding to my question in the fitness equipment post........are 100 pound hex dumbbells heavy enough or would i need to buy heavier ones? and in what weights should i be getting dumbbells in?

It depends how strong you are.

In 1 week i'll use almost every weight from 6kg to 45kg.

You should only buy fixed weight dumbbells if your gonna get a whole set.
Try to find some adjustable ones. e.g. bars that you take the plates on and off
