Where to start?

Let's see here. This is my first time on a weight-loss forum, I am a little nervous!:leaving: I am 17 years old and have been struggling with my weight since I was around 9. I started off a stick thin child and then I don't know what happened! When I was 12 I went on a diet... More like eat 600 calories a day and run for two hours on a treadmill EVERY day. I lost all the excess weight sure, but when I went back to normal living I was so starved I couldn't stop eating. I have failed to stick on a normal less 'scary' diet since for more than two weeks. I just can't stick to it. I am on and off diets so much...

Most of the time, for the past three years, I have been stuck at a weight of around 190. I got comfortable with that, it wasn't until 2007 hit that I balooned to 240IBS.:banghead: I am only 5'4. I am so uncomfortable and miserable it hurts. The trigger for my weight gain was a horrible car accident that happened in january '07. I now have a bulging disk in my back and horrible sciatica pain. This makes exercise extremely difficult and painful.

I am just looking for some support, perhaps a penpal sort of thing. I really want to conquer this once and for all. My ultimate goal is to lose 100IBS, but I will be happy just getting some of this weight off! It has finally come to the point where it is affecting my life. I own three fantastic horses and I can't ride two of them now due to my weight, with the third only allowing for light riding. I am so sick of this.

Sigh. Now that all that is out in the open...

It sounds to me like you need to find a happy medium. You seem like you tend to travel down the 'all or nothing' route. It can't be like that. Even the best of us aren't 100% on all of the time.

You need to find a SANE caloric intake that doens't leave you starving and be smart about your food choices. By smart, I don't mean you have to eat all 'clean' foods. By smart, I mean pick foods that are satiating by nature. Also by smart, I mean include some foods that are pleasing to you. Even the worst of foods isn't going to make you fat if your calories are in check!

Sorry to hear about the car accident.... that's rough. With regards to the back trouble, especially the sciatica, you might consider checking out a chiropractor. I'm not sure what sort of medical advice you've been given to date.... but if you're done with the docs and you still have a lot of pain.... I'd def. look into the chiro. I'm not talking about the ordinary, back-cracking quacks most associate to chiros. I'm talking about the kind that specialize in these sort of soft tissue insures (nerves are soft tissue.) You can start be going to and finding a provider near you. If they can help, they will. If they can't, they should give suggestions on what steps to take next.

Best to you.

Steve-Thanks so much for the support, your spot on about me being 'all or nothing' that is the hardest thing for me in life.

Thanks for the chiro suggestion. I have been to one and he did help a little but not enough, I don't think he was very good. Thanks for the link, it would be great if I could find someone who could at least alleviate the pain. Right now the docs are just trying to shove me on tons of pain killers for he rest of my life. I don't want to do that. Otherwise they are goign to conduct a nerve study on my back and see if burning my nerves will help.

You're welcome. Please do check out that link and see if there are any providers in your area before you go slugging a billion pills or go through some invasive surgery.
