where does the fat go??

i read a post at google groups about different foods in people's diets, and one poster's #1 was water,,,ok.

but he also said this...to paraphrase "you think fat just simply disappears when you burn it?"

welllll, I did. so my question is where DOES it go,,,what is the process,,,what happens when you exercise and burn fat?

thx

It turns into heat or used for energy, with the byproducts being h20 and co2

and so this guy would be implying that the byproducts, h20/co2(is that h2o or h20), are eliminated from the body through water, therefore water plays a role in this. makes sense but honestly, i never thought that there were byproducts in this process.

yes it is o not 0 i just dont bother :)

Its a pretty vague and simplistic statement. But essentially it does dissapear !
where do you think the fat goes when an obese person becomes skinny, it doesnt hide in the bones :p

The fatty acids gets gradually broken down cyclically, entering aerobic metabolism as a hyrogen atom (H) and combines with oxygen (o2) to form water, although co2 is produced to from the cells..

I just get mine lipo'd off and then I sell it back to the hotdog factory ;)

well, i sorta thought fat just goes up in smoke :).

so when it combines with o2 to form water, it is then eliminated from the body as water, i guess? does drinking more water aid the process?(aside from the x amount of water one should drink)

doesnt it get lost through heat and sweat?

Are you talking about the principle behind the 'sweat suit' where people get hot and lose weight? If so then no, those people just get dehydrated, the weight goes back on when hydration levels return to normal

Further to what matt182 said.

When you burn fat, you require oxygen. Burning fat results in basically 3 things - ' energy ' ( something called ATP ) carbon dioxide, and water.

The ' energy ' ( via heat ) and water is removed from your body by sweating.

Carbon dioxide is simply removed in your breath by breathing.

No, that's where all the boatloads of extra protein ( that guys waste their money on ) goes.:)

Don;t forget; that extra protein can actually end up as the fat in question as well. :11doh:

I beleive the OP got his answer already, just wanted to toss that in.

think of it like this...you have a set number of fat cells, but they are not a set size. fat cells expand to store energy, and shrink when that stored energy is depleted.

this is why bad liposuction can leave people with 'holes' of missing fat that makes them look like a bad science experiment.
