When you hit a weight going up, and then on the way down..

Let's say you are sedentary and eating far too many calories a day. Eventually you hit 200lbs, and then you peak at 250 lbs. You decide it's time to start losing weight and start eating good nutrient rich foods within the appropriate calorie range and exercising moderately. You get your weight down to 200 lbs again.

Now my question is, is it possible that your body's size will be a little different at 200 while you're weight is going down, than at 200 while your weight is going up? I always assumed it would be, atleast a little bit, but I'd like to hear from other people who know better than I do.

Just wondering.

I have noticed this actually.

I am at 190 now coming down from 220. Most clothes I have are fitting me again like when I was at 190 before, but some things still don't fit quite right, or at all. I defiantly don't feel the EXACT same, but darn close.

My guess would be as we age our weight distribution changes? So I am the same as I was but maybe now carry more on my hips then stomach?

Maybe someone will jump in with a better answer.

Yeah, two things can affect this. One is body composition - you might have a different ratio of fat to muscle than the last time you were at that weight. And since fat takes up more volume than muscle, that can be a factor. Second is hormonal changes - although in general you take weight off the same way you put it on, that's not always the case. Especially if you've gone through hormonal changes - which most women tend to do in spades after a certain age.

After losing my pregnancy weight, I definitely have a different distribution of weight. My stomach and chest are bigger than they used to be at this weight, but other areas are smaller...

I'm now thinking it's different for gals than guys ...

Agree. As my husband is losing weight I see very little difference in the way he looks at his weight now vs. the same weight previously.

I'm sure there are lots of factors involved.

I'd say the simplest answer is yes, it is possible for your body to look different at the same weight in two different points in your life, but that doesn't mean it definitely will.
