When Will I See Results???

Hi there!
Since May of this year, I have lost about 30 pounds. (I've gone from 300 pounds to 270 pounds).
Lately, I've been lacking motivation -- and find that I keep eating bad foods due to this lack of motivation.
I want to get back on track --- but am wondering, when will I begin to be able to see the physical results of weight loss?
I have a lot to lose -- but I thought losing 30 pounds I may be able to see *something* .... but I think I still look the same.

At what point in my weight loss journey do you estimate that I'll be able to see a change in my physical appearance?

Thanks!

Hi, WinIt! For people our size it's hard to see results this early on. I've lost nearly 40 lbs and the only time I see any results is if I look over myself carefully in the mirror. Never fear though, you may not "see" any results right now but chances are your body is starting to feel better, am I right?

I know for me I will probably need to lose around 50 lbs before the weight loss will start to be noticeable.

Please don't give up and go back to your old habits. The only time there is failure is if you just give up. Do you want to undo all the work you've put in so far?

Thanks Stacy!
You're definitely right -- I don't want to go back any amount and erase all the hard work I've done.
Like you, I think I'm setting my "current" goal to 50 pounds. I know I want to lose more than that eventually -- but, 50 pounds seems nice to aim for. Small steps along the way, you know?
And you're right again -- I definitely feel better. More energy than before for sure. I just need to combine that added energy with more motivation and get back on track.
Any suggestions for not caving in to the "bad foods"? (I'm an impulse/bored eater --- which I can't stand.)

Thanks Stacy!

Yeah, setting mini-goals along the way can be very helpful. Some people on this site even set their tickers to the smaller goals, that way it's not so overwhelming.

Awesome! I'm glad you've got more energy now. Yeah, for sure, use that energy to get some physical activity in. Find something you enjoy doing. I started out slowly with walks a couple times a week, then increased my activity levels after a few walks. Having a Wii also helped me because I get to play video games while working out. lol :)

Oh totally - what I had to do was just not bring them into the house. My boyfriend wasn't happy about that for a little while, but after a few weeks of eating healthier he found he actually likes it. Now he's the one to suggest we go out for walks and stop by the farmers market for some fresh fruit and veggies. :) He now prefers frozen yogurt over ice cream and when he's craving something sweet he always buys the low fat low sugar kinds instead of the full fat sugar loaded ones.

Bottom line is - if you don't have it in the house you can't be tempted by it. Throw it out. It was hard for me at first when I cleaned out the cabinets and fridge, I felt guilty for throwing away food. But in the end you're doing yourself a BIG favor. And the stuff that isn't opened can always be donated. Your body will feel better and your mind will feel better knowing that junk isn't around to tempt you. :)

Wow!
Thanks so much for your suggestions!
I know it seems like such an easy concept -- out of sight, out of mind -- but I haven't actually done that before.
I moved back home with my parents (I'm 24) about 2 years ago to go to college, so it's hard to regulate what food is brought into the house and what's not. But, I think instead of "throwing it out" -- I'm going to set up my own section in the fridge. That section will be the ONLY food I can grab -- and if I try and stick with that mindset of not reaching for other items, then maybe that will help.
Good news is, I only have less than 3 weeks of school left ...... so only under the parents' roof for a short time left now.
Thanks again for your help :)
I'll keep you updated!

Yeah, it would be hard to regulate the food that comes in when it's your parents house, but maybe if you told them you are losing weight and trying to eat healthier then perhaps they won't get junk food?

It's good that you won't have to be around that for long. :) Definitely keep me updated. *hugs*
