When did you start to notice a difference?

I've lost about 25 lbs so far and to me I still look the same as I did before. It's really frustrating because I thought I'd atleast be able to see a little bit of a difference, the only thing I notice is my clothes fitting a lot loser but grr that's it! How much weight did you have to lose to see a noticable difference? BTW I'm 199 now and I started out about 225 and my goal is to be 130 by the end of the year.

I think its harder for you to see the difference in yourself...your often times your biggest critic.

post a pic, we'll tell you what WE see.

Is there any way to post a pic so only members can see it and not just anyone who visits the site?

hmm, I dont know. But still, remember what I said, you may lose a bunch of weight, and still see the old person you used to see...dont get discouraged, pay attention to how you feel...Ive only lost 13lbs, and I dont see a dang thing different, but I know Im losing, and I feel better. You just have to keep on keepin on.

hopefullysoon, I know exactly how you feel; actually I had a similar thread a few days ago.
Until now I've lost 28.5 lbs but I still can't see any major differences, especially since I don't have any 'before' pictures.
But, people who haven't seen me in over 5 weeks (since it all began) keep telling me the weight loss is indeed noticeable.

A tough situation

You are definitely not alone. It is not uncommon at all for those losing the weight to feel the differences and notice the differences in the way clothes fit, but not "see" it. I know from very personal experience. I am down 54 pounds now, but it is still the same 297 pound fat guy looking back at me in the mirror. My belts have all had to be replaced and my clothes tailored in order to not look ridiculous, my friends and family all gasp in amazement when they see me and I am more active and energetic than ever before. But it is STILL the same fat guy in the mirror to me.

I know it sucks. Trust me. But don't lose faith.

Thank god I do wear clothes that I notice the differences in and have people to tell me they DO see the changes, otherwise I would have given up long ago. As mentioned already, we are our worst critics, bottom line. Also I think while on this weight loss journey we not only tend to be over critical of ourselves, but we hop on that scale and look in that mirror every day. I think that makes the changes that are happening daily seem more insignificant.

The important thing though is that you clothes ARE looser and thats the best indication of all. I am confident that sooner or later I will look at myself in the mirror again and say "WOW!!! Is that really me??" But until then I will keep going, living vicariously through the praise of others and the fact my clothes keep getting baggier and baggier.....

In any case, keep up the good work. 25 pounds is a fantastic accomplishment and you should be proud of yourself, even if your eyes havent picked up the changes yet....

Sirant is right. Many times I have felt like I look the same, or have not lost any weight. But I work in Customer service, and my customers will come in whom have not seen me in months and the first thing they will say is how different I look. Trust me, if the clothes are getting looser, you are looking thinner.

You have to sign on to see journals, so if you were to post a pic in your journal only members could see it anyway, or that's my understanding :)

I agree with the above---take a picture of yourself and then compage it with one from 25 pounds ago and I think you'll see a major difference! I know that I could see the difference from 203.5 to 180 but then I was getting frustrated etc...around 153 that I still looked fat---I took a picture and wow, it totally changed my perspective.

I lost 16 pounds and felt the difference in my clothes, but didnt actually see it in the mirror, until i compared my before pics was when i actually saw the difference. That was from 204 to 187

Ive lost 11lbs so far and my Mam says she can see the difference in my face. I sure as hell cant though. So I reckon everyone has a point that sometimes we dont see it ourselves but its obvious to others.

well...

this is the way i see it...

do you really notice when you're gaining weight?
I don't really notice when I'm gaining weight until i see a number on the scale ive never seen before and say "oh lord!!!!! im fat!"

well i think the same thing goes in the other direction...when you see a number on the scale you havent seen in years and years, or NEVER seen before and you say to yourself "oh my lord! I'm thin!!!"

i went from 145lbs to 185lbs so slowly, that i didnt notice it as i was gaining it. but then when i finally hit 185, i said...jeez! there's a huge difference!~

so now I'm working my way down, and I've lost 13 pounds, and i can't notice a difference, but i know when i get back to 145, I'll see the difference!

just keep at it!

I am 65 or so pounds down from where I started, and I really didnt notice my weight loss till about 3 days ago. I was standing outside work, with the smokers, and we have reflective windows and I caught a side profile and didnt recognize the guy looking back... it was easily the strangest moment I have exeperienced in a while... until that point all my work really didnt seem real... so maybe take a look at yourself from different angles, do a side profile in the mirror or something.

When did *you* notice?

When did you notice that you were losing weight? What made you be able to actually see the difference in yourself other than going by the number on the scale and how your clothing fit?

Most people I know that have lost weight always say that they can't tell on themselves mostly because they look at themselves every day. On myself, I can only tell in my arms and face but the other day my sister told me I'm getting smaller all around.

Sometimes it just sucks to be in the middle of a weight loss goal I guess.

really u never notice until u look back at pictures and ur like HOLY SHIT!!!

well at least thats what i did..

Everyone's different. I noticed after about 6lbs. I do measurments though too, and you can really "see" a difference.

I didn't really have a point which I went 'ah now I can see it' I have lost about 15 pounds and I don't really see or feel a big difference but I have gotten more comfortable in my tight horse riding pants and closer fitting shirts. I was even able to go to 17th ave (which is pretty much our busiest street full of cafe's and bars and restaurants) in my riding gear.

Tho I was very dissapointed when I went to the mall and tried on clothes. The medium shirts worked fine, but I tried on size 9 pants and hoped that they would all be too big on me, but only one pair fit! (tho that pair was loose fitting) All the rest were too tight still. Wah!! I hope with losing the 25 pounds I have yet to lose that I can fit into a size 5/6!

I've lost 40 pounds/18kg since about December, and I still don't see a major difference. Sirant described it perfectly. I need new clothes (still wearing the old jeans though, damn uni student financial situation), I need to tighten up my belts, people often verbally point my weight loss.

Yet, in the mirror, I don't see a thing different. I still see the man boobs, the belly, and it really pisses me off that I'm well over halfway and I haven't lost these vital things. Yesterday I recorded my first ever BMI of under 25, and I still feel obese. Maybe toning with weights/dumbbells might improve my figure, but I hate it.

People that see you everyday never notice, people that see you once in a while do. I started noticing in my mirror at the 30 lb mark. Now people are always saying that I am much thinner. Mainly b'cause my clothes are falling off. I did see a difference in my photos though.

I think it depends on how overweight you are, some people can lose 50 lbs and still be obese or worse and once you get down towards your goal 10 lbs doesn't change you much either. At least it worked that way for me, I'm sure everyone is different. I know for me I didn't see a big visual difference until I had lost around 35 lbs. I noticed my belt needing to be tightened in a few weeks but I didn't have to buy any new clothes until I had lost nearly 35 lbs. Even then I was still pretty chunky, at that point I was 235ish down from 270. Just stick with it and it will happen. In the beginning it seems like it is taking forever, I know I wished I could wave a magic wand and make it go away. Be patient, the wait is worth it.
