What's your favorite diet food?

Oooh, that reminds me of my best discovery last week. Have you tried the "Greek style" yogurt that is suddenly all the rage? I bought a small container of a brand called "Fage." Oh, MAN is that stuff good!! It was plain, unflavored yogurt, lowfat but not nonfat (2% I think). Not the lowest calorie yogurt in the dairy case but it tastes so rich that you don't need to eat a lot of it, and it's so tasty that you don't need to add sweetener. It's like eating sour cream! I ate it a quarter cup at a time with fresh raspberries, or as a side dish with home-made curry. Yum.

Yum, yogurt, indeed. I make my own, and I'm always dithering between the 'natural' and the 'Greek style' mixes. This week's batch is Greek, and it's gross! Too runny: it looks like snot. From now on, I'm going natural.

It's great as a base for a quiche instead of cream or sour cream. And if you pack enough spinach in there, the pastry doesn't count :)

I don't know if tea counts as a treat food, but I couldn't live without it. It keeps me warm and hydrated and fill of caffeine and calcium. It's the perfect beverage!

A smoothie made out of frozen banana, natural peanut butter, ground flax, and almond milk. Ooh, that was so, so good.

Snacky foods: unroasted unsalted almonds. fresh blueberries. frozen raspberries. frozen sweet cherries.

beat up 2 eggs and 2 egg whites
added in an egg shell of water

lots of black pepper... some lemon zest and chopped chives...

I have a silicone square cake pan (but a non stick cookie sheet would work) that i pour the eggs into.. and dabble the top with some feta cheese.

bake until the eggs are set.. about 15 minutes...

let cool and cut in squares...

I just made this, but I added sliced black olives to it. Good stuff! Thanks for the recipe.

I think there's lots of ways to modify this one!

heres some fairly healthy fries
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees

take 2 potatoes and cut them into quarters
then take an eggwhite and beat it slightly

put the potato wedges on a nonstick cookie sheet
take the egg white and brush it on to the potato wedges

then sprinkle some paprika on them

bake for about 20 minutes til theyre nice and browned on the outside

they taste like thick yummy steak fries without the fat of the fryer!!

I love all kinds of fruit, baby carrots, boneless skinless chicken breasts cooked in olive oil and garlic, tossed over some whole wheat pasta and sprinkled with parmesan cheese.. boneless skinless chicken breasts grilled with a Hawaiian/Teriyaki/Sesame Ginger/Pear Chipolte/etc sauce over brown rice, shrimp cooked like the chicken, eggs, turkey burgers, Laughing Cow cheese wedges, etc.

I got the Fage at Kowalski's (a gourmet grocery store in my neighborhood) and it was pricey. But I see that Trader Joe's carries Greek yogurt, probably at a more reasonable price. I think I'll give that a try next time I'm in the vicinity of Trader Joe's.
I got some of that stuff at Freshline, same brand and everything, and it is absolutely amazing. I used it, 1/2 cup at a time, in my fresh fruit smoothies and it made them amazingly rich. Good stuff.

i love jello pudding cups, the low fat ones for like 60 cals. Nummy. Or fudge bars from DQ (around 70 cals? maybe 90 I can't remember).

Tuna in romaine hearts instead of bread. Soooooo good. I'm also in love with soup, I had tons of varieties/flavours that I eat regularly :D

Bananas, natural peanut butter, almonds and toasted corn. I recently threw out all my sweetened banana chips after I realized it was basically like eating a stick of butter.

I go through a ton on phases , I'll eat things for weeks then get sick of them but the one snack that has stayed with me the whole time is the 100 calorie light popcorn bags (sometimes with some grated parmesan cheese sprinkled on). Whenever I get in the mood to pick or about to eat something I shouldn't out of boredom I pop a bag and cravings reside.

cucumber sandwich

I'm currently going through a cucumber sandwich phase. Toasted wheat bread with light cream cheese and cucumbers. I've eaten this once a day for three days now. I'm addicted.

I love those too but never did them toasted with cream cheese, I'll have to try that sometime. I always liked mine with a bit of mayo or salad dressing, a tomato slice and some sprouts :)

I make a mean cheeseless spicy lasagna that I really enjoy. I have to agree with JulianaRose that grilled chicken and orange juice, the combination, is quite tasty. Mild cheese and fruit. MMmmmmMMmm this thread is making me hungry. :piggy:

I would have to say granny smith apples with half a serving of peanut butter, throw in a glass of fat free milk and your good to go!

I totally go through phases with food. What I want every single day for months will suddenly go uneaten by me. I'm also a popcorn fan, but I can burn out on it too.

I love cucumber sandwiches too...esp. made on rye bread. There is just something especially pleasing about the combination of the flavors of the rye. the cuke and the miracle whip.... :)

I love the way the flavor of ham meets maple syrup too...but that's not a diet food.
