on a diet? What diet?
4 hours is over training.. that will not yield results for you. If you are in the gym for 4 hours that means you are not eating for probably more. When you go for long periods of time without eating your metabolism will kick into defense mode and store more food.

Can you tell us what you eat? And then a proper training routine should be put together.

Sounds like you are working out too much and not eating enough. Gaining weight is a "side effect" of those two things.

How old are you? Generally working out 6 days a week is more than enough. Working out 15-60 minutes on those days is plenty. You should be eating every 2-3 hours as well.

Lynn when u over excercise u can gain weight? how does that work?

When you overtrain your body does not have time to recover. If you over exersice you will not gain weight unless you are eating over maitenance.

When you are using up so much engery (calories) and you are eating too few (more than 500 calories under maitenance) Your body can go into a starvation like mode, where it will burn fewer calories.

I eat between 1500 -1600 cal per day , 4 meals , which one of em is 2 hrs before i go to the gym, but the think is i don't have anyyyy desire to eat more ! and I can feel I have energy to do exercises , so why should I eat more when I don't need it ? Also I'm 22 years old , and I want to lose 10 lbs , but the way it goes , i'm gaining weight !:(

I am going to have to disagree on this point here. Overexercising can lead to weight gain. When you do enter starvation mode from lack of calories and/or from over training, the future calories you consume go into reserve which can lead to fat storage. I read some great studies done on althetes at Cornell University who were being overtrained and not only lost muscle mass but increased a great deal overall of body fat%. And they were at maintained calories intake recommended for there activity level, which still was too low according to later tests done to them to show their actual energy output for each indiviual needs. I point this out because its also a common effect that occurs with those who have eating/workout disorders. Working out like that over an extended period of time could certainly cause weight gain not to mention other and more dangerous side effects.

Over-exercising can lead to weight gain. I won't re-describe it since Theleip already posted a good review of the process. Thanks again, Theleip :)

to determine how many calories per day you need to maintain your current weight.

4 hours a day at the gym almost definitely means you are not eating enough calories for all that exercise.

..and, i guarantee you are losing muscle mass during this time. Couple that with the possibility of improper nutrition.. your body is in STORAGE/DEFENSE mode.

That is all you eat?

90 minutes is way too freaking much cardio and the 3.4 miles walk/run is way, way too much freaking exercise for a single day (and it sounds like you're doing it every day). You only need to do about 20-30 minutes to get the full effect. 90 minutes is a over kill and on top of that you're itching for muscle catabolism, which could explain why you're gaining weight.

Goal: eat more, workout for 30 minutes instead of an hour and a half.

Come back with a better eating plan, and a better exercise.

Also, you may already be at the proper weight. I believe you measure success and failure on weight instead of health. What you are doing is not healthy.

It seems like it. I found some people tend to only care about weight. Instead of focusing on what they did during the week, they focus on what weight they lost, gained, or kept. It's really not a good way to go about. I found most people don't really care about weight, they just focus on it as a measurement which is a bit dangerous in my opinion. I guess you have to measure something, but I think an ideal thing to measure is what you did fitness wise/nutritional wise instead of weight-wise.

Isn't it weird to go through an old thread and be like "Where did all these different avatars come from"?
