Well, im 24, im 6'5, currently 231, at my heaviest in 2007 i was well over 385, in late 2007 i cracked 4 discs in my back witch required a 6 inch steel rod to be implanted in my spine for support and dislocating my knee cap in a work related injury witch kept me immobile for over 2 years, after years of physical rehab, with a good diet and some strength training ive lost over 150 pounds without surgery, and without support of my friends and my family. I lost the weight for myself and not them. thats just the way i see it..

Im just here looking for tips and possibly some new exercises that wont further injure my spine or my knee, i currently walk with a huge metal knee support brace, i have trouble with doing cardio because of severe knee pains, i mostly do weight lifting and push ups and some stretching..

Any tips on anything would be greatly appreciated, i also have alot, and i do mean ALOT of loose skin around my stomach and i cant afford any surgery for it, so i would also like tips on loose skin..

Welcome to the forum!

Sorry to say but I don't think there is anything other than surgery that can be done to reduce loose skin.

Good luck!

Yep, I would ask my family doctor about the loose skin, he my be able to recommend something for you.

Good Luck to You and Welcome to the forum!

Hey Fluxo!

First of all, I just want to say that you've done an absolutely amazing job so far losing that much weight with the injuries you've had to deal with!

I'm pretty hesitant to suggest specific resistance exercises for you to do when I haven't actually worked with you or have contact with your healthcare team... So, one of the safest things I could suggest for cardio is to try deep water walking at your local pool. I know the pool can often present problems in terms of feeling self conscious, but trust me, once you feel the relief of having the water supporting much of your weight, your knees and back will thank you! I've worked with a number of clients in the same situation as you (losing weight, self conscious about how they look, and in pain - usually the knees and/or back). It took a bit of convincing on my part to get them to try the pool, but usually once they were in, they didn't want to get out! It feels so nice to be able to move around with less pain!

Try googling 'deep water walking' for some instruction.

Some tips:

- Start very slow and with a small range of motion. once you're comfortable with the technique & sure that you're not going to be sore from it, you can increase the range of motion that you use (ie. bringing your knees higher with each "step" and moving your arms more)
- Only wear a water belt (which helps you float) if it doesn't hurt your back, just keep in mind that you have to work harder without the belt
- See if there is a class or an instructor that knows how to teach water walking so that they can teach you the correct technique

Just a suggestion! Either way, good luck and I can't wait to hear about your progress! :)
