Hey everyone,

So I am a 20 year old and i currently am at the weight of 220 before college at the age of 17 i weighed a healthy weight of 165 i am 5'9 so i know my healthy weight is higher than most but this is getting out of hand, i have tried exercise and it works for a week or so but i cant get myself to stick to it. i have changed my diet, gone off my birth control witch was part of the weight gain to begin with. I love being active, and i just want to be at my old healthy weight again. If you could help me with any kind of things that may have worked for you that would be great! thank you so much i am willing to try just about anything!

Hi caitebee,

I am glad that you are trying to lose weight and get back in shape.

Now it helps if you are the type of person that loves to be active because it definitely aids in your attempt to lose weight.

A little bit of info would be helpful here:

Are you counting calories and tracking your food intake?
What types of activities do you enjoy doing?
What are your biggest problems when it comes to losing weight? (Late night hunger, feeling weak etc)?

The more information you give, the more the community can help you I suppose :)

Hi caitebee,

I've been doing strength training + cardio for almost a year and I saw huge benefits. Training with weights helped me shape my body, gain muscle and lose fat especially from my abdominal area.
In the meantime, I ate healthy and clean foods 80% of the time. For the remaining 20% I enjoyed the foods that I love.

For some time, I used myfitnesspal to track my food because I needed to learn about macronutrients. I made sure I ate enough protein for most of the time, to gain muscle.

These are my experiences and it worked for my lifestyle. Whatever you do, make sure you love doing it and you can sustain it. Hope that helps! :)

I'm sure you have heard this before, but throw out the scale. Checking your weight every day is the sure way to fail. Success is measured in the mirror. #1) your weight fluctuates every day. So seeing loss in one day and then back up the next day is discouraging. #2) Exercising will put on muscle, so again the scale gets tipped the "wrong" way.

Exercise is really important for short term weight loss but also for long term success. If you can't motivate yourself to the gym, find a work out partner to keep you going.
