Hello, my name is James.
Around the end of December, I started making an effort to get in better shape and eat better foods. I was 300 pounds.
Now, in mid February, I'm down to 290 =).
I go to the gym on my lunch breaks 3 to 5 times a week. At first I was doing a more balanced series of walking, weight lifting, and swimming.
Over the last few weeks I've started focusing almost exclusively on Swimming.
I started as 250 meters, or 12 laps. Now I'm doing a mile, or 64 laps. It feels great, its getting easier, and I can tell I'm getting in great shape and losing weight doing it.
My question is, what sort of exercise can I do to compliment it without wearing me out to much? Swimming seems like a full body workout, and I find if I go jogging or lift weights it limits my ability to swim as well.
Is there anything I can do that might compliment it without impacting my swimming performance?
As far as dieting, I've cut out all soda and fast food. I've also starting limiting my portion sizes to more reasonable numbers. However, I do find that the quality of food, while better than it used to be, certainly isn't my best. I still enjoy french fries or frozen chicken strips, or a full breakfast of eggs, turkey bacon, and toast with butter. That being said instead of eating 3 eggs, 3 bacon, and 2 toast, I usually go with 2, 2, and 1. With fries and chicken I'm usually at 2 or 3 strips instead of 6, and about half as much fries, just as some examples.
As a side note, I'm saving a ton of money doing this as well. Fast food is EXPENSIVE, especially when I was getting Large Combos.
Thanks in advance for any exercise or reasonable diet changes I could make and still enjoy myself =)
