What should I do to lose weight?

In the past couple years i've attained a computer job and run my own website business which lead to me getting lazy and not staying fit, I pay for all the bills and i'm wondering what should I do to lose weight?

I can't afford any organic food or expensive diet plans and I was thinking should I go on a liquid diet? Some people say it's bad don't do it but after I saw 50cent go through a liquid diet while taking vitamin pills and doing 3 hour walks a day, he lost so much weight by doing so, it made me want to try it also.

I don't have time for exercise and i'm at my desk for hours on end so this would be the easiest way for me to lose weight but i'm looking for opinions and some advice is there any other way I could lose weight without having to spend money on food that only I would eat?

I buy the food that my family wants to eat and I eat whatever gets cooked they are really picky and i'm not since I do not have the money to spare and I doubt everyone would want a sudden change in their daily diet should I just go for it and try the liquid diet maybe I could take those all in one vitamin pills while doing so?

I've never tried to diet at all i've been normal and fit for as long as I could remember until I graduated high school that's when I just didn't have time and packed on tons of weight without noticing it happened so fast I now have stretch marks so could anyone help? I have no experience with this type of stuff.

So to sum it all up I need an opinion on what I should do for a diet since I barely have time to exercise and have a stay at home sit on the chair type of job. I could probably get some exercise in if I tried I guess but i'm looking for info about liquid diets is it safe to try it as long as I take vitamins? Any other diet options that doesn't require me to buy lots of different foods?

You may lose weight on the liquid diet but it will almost certainly go straight back on as soon as you go back to your normal way of eating. If you can't cook seperately for you and your family then try and take healthier options like eating less fat and sugar and make your portions smaller. Fill up on what ever fruit, veg and salad stuff is in season and drink a glass or 2 of water before every meal. Try and find an hour a day to exercise even if it doesn't mean leaving the house. Run up and down stairs, use food cans as weight etc etc. Home made low cal soups are a good filler.
Good luck, if you really put your mind to it then it won't be too difficult to make a few changes in your lifestyle.

Are you willing to eat a liquid diet the rest of your life? If so, go ahead and try it. If not, then what do you think will happen when you go back to regular food?

Healthful food does not have to be expensive. If you are buying the food, get good healthful food. You are not doing your family any favors feeding them the garbage they want.

There is no such thing as "diet foods" and then "foods everyone else eats". Some foods are just crap that no one should eat, but almost everything else can be part of a well balanced diet with the right preparation and the proper portions. The foods you eat to lose weight should be the same healthy foods you and your family eats to maintain weight - you just eat smaller portions when you want to lose.

Edit: And a liquid diet is not the solution either.

Ideal Protein really works well and a healthy way to lose weight the money is worth it for health

I would really consider the pros and cons before you go ahead and start that liquid diet.

One benefit with liquid diets are that they are easy and will work if you can stick to it. Another this is that they are cheap too. A lot cheaper then buying organic foods.

Liquid diets can also be a decent way to give your weight loss a kick start, however you will need to adjust you eating habits otherwise you will find that when you stop doing it, you will put the weight, plus more back on.This is because diets like this tend to put the body in starvation mode.

While liquid diets do have pros and cons, I certainly think over the long run there are better options.

Liquid diets are also a temperary solution. While it may work for a while....eventually you WILL go off of a liquid diet. No one stays on those diets forever and when you DO go off of it, you'll be in the same position you are now as to not knowing how to eat properly to continue your weight loss.

I suggest good old fashioned, diet and exercise! Educate yourself. Find out what kind of foods are best for your body and work that in with foods that you enjoy. Find a sport that you like to do....tennis, soccer, that can be your excersize...it doesnt' have to be mindless hours on the tredmill. Losing weight can be fun and healthy! Challenge yourself to do it right and stop trying to take short cuts....it will be worth it in the end!

I always find it funny when people say they can not afford to eat healthy because I find it costs me less. For starters you are going to be eating less - less butter, sugar, salt, any kind of juices or pop can be completely eliminated and switch to water only. A bag of frozen fries costs more than a couple yams. A box of chicken nuggets costs the same as a couple fresh chicken breasts. Sugary cereal can be replaced with oatmeal or healthier cereal options for little cost difference. White bread replaced with whole grain bread doesn't change the cost either. I honestly feel like my grocery bills have been cut in half when I am eating healthy - I completely eliminate all the old snacks I used to buy - chips & dip, cookies, ice cream - none of that stuff is cheap compared to an apple.

Sounds like low carb diet would work best for you since you barely have to time to exercise. I have only seen significant weight loss in a short period of time with minimal exercise with this diet. There are loads of other diets for you to try however I think inactivity will limit your options.

I can totally relate to the problem that you have. My work is so busy sometimes that i forget its way past lunchtime. and by then I'm so hungry that I literally eat all the junk I can find in my office pantry and then head down to the nearest fast food joint.

As for liquid diet, I don't think anyone is meant to take liquid diet for a sustained period of time. Like what the rest said, once you go back to normal food, your weight will spring back.

The human body has a tremendous ability to adapt. This is why most diets never work for long, if at all. Your body sure as hell will adapt to liquid diet. The trick is to never allow your body to adapt to a specific diet, exercise plan or routine.

Start incorporating an exercise plan before you get to work. It doesn't have to be very long as long as its intense. Aim to eat 5 meals a day at 3 hour intervals (Breakfast, lunch, dinner and 2 snacks between actual meals). If you find it hard to fix something to eat or can't keep track of time, keep a packet of almond nuts and some milk in your office pantry. Also, schedule "meal meetings" on your outlook calendar so you will remind yourself to eat.

These are some of the things that I'm doing to keep my weight off. Hope it will work for you too.

All the best,
Daniel

Hello there,

I am a 22 year old, weighing 52 kgs. I gained a lot over the past 2 months.
Is there a method that you can provide which is proven to be effective?

Please help.

I don't think there's anything wrong with liquid diets. You don't always have to gain the weight back. The people that gain the weight back usually are the ones binging after they've completed the diet. If you eat moderately after any type of fast or liquid diet you won't gain the weight back. Unfortunately, most people don't have this type of self control.

R&D Cookie Diet

You may lose weight on the liquid diet but it will almost certainly go straight back on as soon as you go back to your normal way of eating. If you can't cook seperately for you and your family then try and take healthier options like eating less fat and sugar and make your portions smaller. I don't think the liquid diet would keep you full enough. I recommend the R&D Diet Cookie. Use them as a jump start and lose some weight quickly and it will motivate you to continue. You can eat them at your computer throughout the day and eat dinner with your family. They keep you full and satisfied so you don't even think about food. They allow you to control your eating instead of the other way around. They are also cheap enough ($5 per day replaces 2 meals and snacks). That's what worked for me. Even after I lost the weight I still start a lot of my days with the cookies. That's how I've kept control and haven't gained any of the weight back. Good luck!

I agree with this. If you eat fruits, vegetables, lean meats, fish, whole grain bread and pasta and drink water it costs no more than eating unhealthy. The weight will come off fast too.

I don't agree with the cookie diet anymore than I do the water diet. They are both fads diet which have nothing to do with getting used to eating a normal healthy diet.

Weight Watchers has altered my life 100%.
Sometimes, I can hardly believe I'm on a diet.
Portion control really is the name of the game.

Get vegetables for your foods; don’t take any sweet foods or fat included foods. If you got sweets or fat included foods, they builds lots of calories for your blood so when you want burn those calories you should spent more times in exercises, avoid from those kind of foods and walk as you can daily.

Respectfully Ecky... what is the "fad" part about the cookie diet? The basis is calorie control. The cookies are a tool (like a pill, but not) that controls hunger and cravings (the biggest cuprits to dieting) allowing you to stay on a low calorie diet. Is it the fast weight loss you don't like? I can understand but I respecfully disagree. The fast weight loss was my biggest motivator. As far as getting used to eating a normal, healthy diet... that is, kind of, a different topic. Most people know how to eat healthy... it's the losing weight part that is difficult. I eat healthy now and use the cookies occasionally when my eating gets out of control... they help me get back in "control".

actually I will strongly disagree with the statement that most people do know how to eat healthy. Most people turn to these fad diets (and I will use the term fad as well) due to the marketing of 'fast' weight loss and they don't really learn what is needed to lose weight and keep it off for their lives.

The fact that you sort of slide about talking about eating a normal and balanced diet says to me the exact item being talked about. By leaning on this crutch of a cookie (replace cookie with snack bar or slimfast shake or whatever..it is the exact same deal in different packaging) you never really learn how to control your portion size, curb your hunger with smart choices and actually building up the knowledge one needs to make this lifestyle change.

Simply put, I believe any 'diet' or plan you can't do for the rest of your life is the wrong one.
