What pumps you up?

Studies have shown that combining music and exercise gives your body a boost. What jams pump you up when you're working out?

Grungey rock music, punk and metal tend to do the job, and consensus of everyone I've spoken to who actually trains seriously in the weight room tends to agree (however, that might just be relative to my associates). Songs that have a build up of aggressive music seem to work. Unfortunately, most commercial gyms seem to thrive on music aimed at either 11-year-olds on their birthday or 21-year-olds in skanky night clubs. Hardly seems fitting to me. And I can't use my MP3 player in the gym - it either gets in the way or just falls out of my ears.

Perhaps you could invest in those "old fashioned" head phones that went across your head? Ha ha! Yay, Justin Beiber!! LOL

I use a pair of sony silicon covered earphones which despite the dripping sweat I have and heavy high impact cardio (lots of moving and jumping around) do stay put.

I download mash-up and re-mix tunes from here there and wherever I can find it. DJs are best found on youtube and then go to their website, you can also find links to other DJs on their websites or to similar music on youtube. There are also places like Best of Bootie which have their version of the cream of the crop. It can take some searching but its still very rewarding once you find stuff thats bang on and lasts more then 3.5 minutes. One DJ (Greg J) has stuff thats 60, 70 minutes long!

No matter what you listen to, get rid of those pansy, white ipod earphones and go get some real HEADphones. Get you a pair of Bose and then you can really get into the workout.

I love to listen to Hip Hop and Rap. The constant beat and bass makes it easy to keep a constant flow of repetitions. I also get lost in the lyrics when I try to understand some of the rappers like Twista. Anyways, to each their own, right?
