what peanut butter is healthy?

I keep seeing peanut butter mentioned in meal plans, and some people specifically say "natural" peanut butter. what is the difference?

Is there some special type you can buy which is better for you? Because the jar I have in my cupboard is mostly made up of fat.

Typical store bought peanut butter has additives, sugars - you know - crap!

Most of the stores I shop at have a machine that processes the peanuts on the spot for 100% all natural peanut butter.

look at the fat breakdown. typically a 32 gram serving of natty pb will have 16 grams of fat with only 2 being saturated.

Peanut Butter is fat - but it's good fat, so long as you only use the natural kind.

YOu can go to any health food store adn get natural PB. Regular supermarkets also carry Smucker's brand natural PB.
Check the ingredients - the only two listed should be peanuts and salt. If there's more, then it's not natural.

The reason you should avoid regular or low-fat peanut butter at all costs is because they are loaded w/ trans fats, and some even had much added sugar = NO GOOD!!

This is probably a stupid question but I have JIF reduced fat pb. It has 12g fat per serving with 2.5g being saturated and 0 trans fat. 250mg sodium,15g of total carbs,1 dietary fiber, 4g sugars and 8g of protein. Is that ok or should I still concentrate on all-natural? What is the best way to eat pb, I love sandwiches but I want to stay away from alot of carbs? Thanks alot in advance.

That is BAD!

The label says it has 0 grams trans fat, but check the ingredients list - it will say partially hydrogenated oils. There is a certain amount the FDA says you can declare there are no trans fats.

But throw it away!! Get the natural kind!! Please!?!

The latter part of your post: I love to eat natty PB for my pro+fat meals. I usually just eat it plain. Or you can do the classic PB on celery - that's virtually no-carb.

I use Laura Scudder's natural peanut butter. It's the kind that's good for you. And stirring the oil back into it when you open the can is a good forearm workout.

I got the smuckers natty pb and it had reduced fat on it too...so r u saying thats not good??

Hey so on 1 slice of 100% whole wheat bread with 2 tbsps. of natty pb would that be better than 2 slices of 100% whole wheat bread with mustard, turkey, and lettuce?

I buy a brand called Teddie's. The only ingredient is: peanuts. The oil floats to the top. You can however get it with salt added, but I choose not.

Hi all,

diggin this thread out from the past here...

On my PB, its says ingredients: Roasted Peanuts (97%), palm oil, sea salt.

Nutritional Info per 100g:

Protein 24.9g
carb 10.1g
Fat 50.2 g
of which saturates: 9.0g

Is this OK? with the palm oil?
Its the only sort I can seem to find near my workplace thats convenient.

Thanks,
sanc

Probably a dumb question, but what does the natural peanut butter taste like? I'm assuming the added sugars and all in JIF are what make it taste oh so good?

Most people don't notice any difference in taste. I actually prefer natty PB -

There's not so much a difference in tast as in "thickness" - it's thicker or something. I used to take a spoon of peanut butter and was ok, with the natty stuff, I HAVE to have milk.

In the fridge, depends what you are uding it for, no chance of spreading it right away, if however you cook with it or eat it straight no problems at all.

Label recommended refrigeration which is why I put it in there in the first place.
