Six Starters
Here are a few "tricks" that have helped me -
1. Fidget. Always move, even if you're sitting still you can tap your foot or jiggle your leg. Fidgeters can burn a lot of calories throughout the day just by those little extra movements throughout the day. All movement adds up to calories burned.
2. Snack. I snack on fruit and/or cucumbers 2 or 3 times a day between meals. Not only is fruit and veggies low in calories but the added boost can help you through the day and help keep you from over eating at meal times. One of my favorite snacks - a sweet and juicy orange. The natural sugar in fruit can help energize me and the extra Vitamin C helps keep my immune system at peak performance.
3. Drink cold water. Drinking cold or ice water burns more calories because your body has to heat up the water. Also drink a LOT of water. Water helps flush out fat, and it is very difficult for the body to differentiate hunger from thirst. If you don't drink enough water throughout the day, you may mistake thirst for hunger and eat more than you really need. In general, doctors recommend 8 or 9 cups of water a day, but depending on the size of your body you may need to drink more than that as the body loses water every day through breath, urination, sweat, and bowl movements (gross but true).
4. Get a blender. I got a blender and make smoothies nearly every day. Soy milk, Splenda, and my favorite fruits (bananas, strawberries, etc) blended until smooth = YUMMY! Not only do they taste great and are low in cals, but they add much needed vitamins to your diet and help to fill you up between meals. For an added treat try freezing the fruit (cut it up first) then blend with your favorite low fat yogurt.
5. What helps me stay on target is drinking a coffee drink on those days when I feel sluggish or just don't feel like working out. I know caffeine isn't that good for you, but now and then as a treat isn't too bad. The caffeine kicks me in the pants and gets me going. In the summer time one of my favorite things is a cold blended coffee drink. 1 cup cold soy milk (you can probably substitute for low fat or no fat milk), 1 teaspoon instant coffee, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and Splenda (0 calorie sweetener) to taste - I add a lot because I like mine really sweet. Blend until frothy and foamy, pour into favorite glass and enjoy!

MMMmmmm! I drink about 4 or 5 of those a week.
6. Never leave the house hungry. Keep some fruit or veggies cut up in a Tupperware bowl or plastic baggies. If you're on your way out and are hungry eat some before leaving or take some with you. It's much much too easy to give into temptation (ie pulling into a fast food drive thru or snatching up donuts at work) with hunger pains gnawing at your belly. Don't use the "I don't have time" speech. Take a few extra minutes when you get home from the grocery store to wash and cut up your newly purchased fruits and vegetables. You'll thank yourself for it later when you're in a rush and you can grab those instead of the high calorie alternatives.
I have a lot more tricks for helping with the weight loss but that should be a nice start.

I don't want this post to get too long (though probably too late for that lol I feel like I wrote a book). Anyway, I hope those help you as much as they have helped me! 26 pounds in less than 2 months and I'm just getting started! VROOOOM!
