What Little Things Do You Do To Aid Weight Loss?

Hi all,

Besides working out and controlling your food portions, is there any little thing on the side that you could help me incorporate to boost my results, even if slowly?

To give you some examples:

Lots of water- Has drinking water gotten you out of a plateau or any particular challenge?

Green tea- How many cups do you drink a day? Care to share your experiences and how long you've been drinking it?

Any other ideas?
Thanks!

I tried green tea for awhile thinking it would help but in the end it did squat. water has definitely helped flush out the system though. there really is only 1 supplement worth buying and thats protein powder.

There is nothing else. That's everything.

Work out, be active, move.

Eat healthy, eat less, eat smart.

Any tip or trick, though helpful they may be, will fall into one of these two categories. If they don't they are probably the fodder of myths, folklore, and old wives tales.

Thanks guys.
Keeping junk food around us is one hell of a thing to avoid. My mind is deeply focused on goals, i live with other people in my house who don't mind eating these stuff. Thankfully i've "developed" my mind enough to completely ignore these things as if they weren't there now.

We have soda, crackers and cookies high in calories, etc. Have I touched them? Poudly, I can say NO :)

Some things that seem to be working for me:

Only shop for whole foods. I dont buy anything that is processed now. This means that I have to cook everything myself and there is nothing easy to snack on. Everything I have requires preparation.

Except! Pickled onions :) I recently saw they have 10 calories (I think) for 8 of pickled onions. When I need a snack I have 3 of them and then dont feel like eating anything else.

Drink ice water. Some people say it lowers your core body temp slightly and your body has to burn calories to heat you up. Sure its probably only a few calories but if you drink a few glasses of ice water a day it all adds up.

IF you use public transport, get off a stop early and walk the rest of the way. If you dont then just try be as active as you can be. All the little things you do add up.

Pickled onions are also good if you are tempted ot eat something sweet as it is difficult to think of sweet food with a pickled onion in your mouth.

omg, I love pickles!
I will eat pickled anything. But be aware of the amount of sodium in them.
I use to think sodium didn't effect me and I could eat all I wanted, but I was wrong. I will retain water like crazy of I go wild on my sodium intake.
So now if I eat a pickle I drink a ton of water with it, to help balance it out.

lol at someone else who likes pickled onions!! I thought I might be the only one. Although I also love vinegar... sometimes I just feel like drinking it.

Good point on the sodium!

Do more work. Like when I have to help carry groceries, I carry the heaviest, I walk when I could.

Try to estimate calories if you go by a border? D:

Six Starters

Here are a few "tricks" that have helped me -

1. Fidget. Always move, even if you're sitting still you can tap your foot or jiggle your leg. Fidgeters can burn a lot of calories throughout the day just by those little extra movements throughout the day. All movement adds up to calories burned.

2. Snack. I snack on fruit and/or cucumbers 2 or 3 times a day between meals. Not only is fruit and veggies low in calories but the added boost can help you through the day and help keep you from over eating at meal times. One of my favorite snacks - a sweet and juicy orange. The natural sugar in fruit can help energize me and the extra Vitamin C helps keep my immune system at peak performance.

3. Drink cold water. Drinking cold or ice water burns more calories because your body has to heat up the water. Also drink a LOT of water. Water helps flush out fat, and it is very difficult for the body to differentiate hunger from thirst. If you don't drink enough water throughout the day, you may mistake thirst for hunger and eat more than you really need. In general, doctors recommend 8 or 9 cups of water a day, but depending on the size of your body you may need to drink more than that as the body loses water every day through breath, urination, sweat, and bowl movements (gross but true).

4. Get a blender. I got a blender and make smoothies nearly every day. Soy milk, Splenda, and my favorite fruits (bananas, strawberries, etc) blended until smooth = YUMMY! Not only do they taste great and are low in cals, but they add much needed vitamins to your diet and help to fill you up between meals. For an added treat try freezing the fruit (cut it up first) then blend with your favorite low fat yogurt.

5. What helps me stay on target is drinking a coffee drink on those days when I feel sluggish or just don't feel like working out. I know caffeine isn't that good for you, but now and then as a treat isn't too bad. The caffeine kicks me in the pants and gets me going. In the summer time one of my favorite things is a cold blended coffee drink. 1 cup cold soy milk (you can probably substitute for low fat or no fat milk), 1 teaspoon instant coffee, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and Splenda (0 calorie sweetener) to taste - I add a lot because I like mine really sweet. Blend until frothy and foamy, pour into favorite glass and enjoy! :) MMMmmmm! I drink about 4 or 5 of those a week.

6. Never leave the house hungry. Keep some fruit or veggies cut up in a Tupperware bowl or plastic baggies. If you're on your way out and are hungry eat some before leaving or take some with you. It's much much too easy to give into temptation (ie pulling into a fast food drive thru or snatching up donuts at work) with hunger pains gnawing at your belly. Don't use the "I don't have time" speech. Take a few extra minutes when you get home from the grocery store to wash and cut up your newly purchased fruits and vegetables. You'll thank yourself for it later when you're in a rush and you can grab those instead of the high calorie alternatives.

I have a lot more tricks for helping with the weight loss but that should be a nice start. :) I don't want this post to get too long (though probably too late for that lol I feel like I wrote a book). Anyway, I hope those help you as much as they have helped me! 26 pounds in less than 2 months and I'm just getting started! VROOOOM!

Nice list, guys :)

There are people who brush their teeth around 7 or 8pm as a way to avoid eating anymore and getting their mouth dirty. Even though I don't practice this, it's a good mental thing indeed.

Yeah, that is a good one too. Another alternative is to rinse your mouth out with mouth wash (the harsher kinds like Listerine work best) after meals. That way you're not tempted to snack until after that strong mouthwash taste leaves your mouth and that can take a while. lol

According to my opinion i reduce my diet and then in break fast i take one cup of hot water and pore some honey in it and juice of Lemon. It reduce my fat in record time.

While that might work for you, Hot water, honey and lemon does nothing but add the calories of the honey to your total caloric intake.

Hi, This is what i suggest my clients do...

1. Take HCl and other digestive enzymes - this vastly improves digestion and allows you to absorb your food and nutrients optimally.
2. Take 6-10g of fish oil per day - this does lots of positive things including aiding fat loss.
3. Aim to eat a certain amount of protein per day - protein satisfies the appetite and can help reduce carb cravings.
4. Eat low GL / GI fruit and vegetables and reduce all processed foods and grains.
5. Drink adequate amounts of water each day.
6. Supplements such as green tea extract, CLA and carnitine all have research to support their use for weight loss.
7. Jonny Bowden PhD sugegsts multipying your target weight in pounds by 10 to get a rough daily calorie intake (140 x 10 =1400 calories) - you don't need to be too OCD about this.
8. Exercise 4 times a week (do weight training and intervals)
