what kind of muscle is the fastest?

What kind of muscle development is best for speed? By speed I mean how fast a muscle can provide movement- say for a punch or kick or any technique.

Is a huge, bodybuilder, vein popping, type of muscle the best for providing speed because it is the strongest, or is a lean defined Bruce Lee type better?

Or, is it something other than the just the muscle that provides for speed? Is it other parts of the body, tendons, etc that build up speed? Can muscle memory obtained through katas and other practice be developed to a high level without any relation to having excessively strong muscles?
I was thinking that most people you see that are really experienced in martial arts or are masters do not look like Arnold in his prime, although a lot of boxers and MMA fighters look like body builders.

What are you using this speed for?

Speed varys through a lot of factors. Obviously things like excess fat can slow people down.

Bodybuilders dont train for speed and therefore aren't likely to be as fast as someone who does.

Explosive lifting is a way to develop muscle speed as it helps develop fast twitch muscle fibres which are used during fast movements.

Performing techniques or punching and kicking. Or in a non martial arts sense, just moving around and performing tasks as part of a sport.

i would have to say lean, toned, optimal muscle performance, along with cardio and mental agility.

Just an educated guess.

light weight training improves muscular endurance so you can keep going for ages but yeah I would go with the explosive lifting idea

flexibility

That needs flexibility in body and the best shape as well. Body warm up techniques should be considered that time. Thankls for this nice sharing.

A strong core is a must for quick strikes! A quick snap of the waist and core are what makes your punches and kicks fast. Make sure you don't forget core training! Balancing exercises work wonders.

Faster punches are result of pectoral muscles.

No.

You are born with speed, you either have it or you don't.
You can slightly improve it by repetition of the techniques, but will not see a major increase.

Same thing with punching power, you could hit the bag forever, and will not hit as hard as someone like Julian Jackson.
You can make anyone into a good puncher through technique, but would have a hard time finding and making a great puncher.

Where do ya come up with this?

Your basically born as a blank slate and everything you do is learned, your speech is learned and your movement is learned. Goalies like Brodeur and Roy did not just come upon fast twitch muscles that allowed them to be great goalies; no these athletes practiced and plied their crafts for years and years.

They didn't happen upon skills, they developed them. All skills can be improved if effort and correct techniques are applied. For example, Mayan's had watchers that studied the skies that stayed in darkness (out of the sunlight) for years and years to allow their eyes to see the heavens better.

Then why was Roy Jones Jr faster than anybody he ever faced?
The current Middleweight champion of the world, Sergio Martinez didn't start Boxing til he was 20 years old, and he has the fastest hands at his division at 36 years old. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr has been Boxing his entire life, and has just average hand speed.

Speed is a natural ability.

So it took Sergio Martinez 16 years to develop his speed, awesome. People don't just wake up with skills, they must master them. When Nadia Comaneci scored her perfect score, she didn't just wake up one day pick her music and routine and just go with it. She practiced it over and over and over again to master her technique.

All skills are learned, as it takes practice to learn how to speak, to walk, to run, to think. Babies don't just ramble on about world events, they have to be trained what to think, what to believe through the education system so that they can spit out rubbish as doctors and teachers.

All of your emotions are learned responses, even love.

2ndIINone - this doesn't have to be an ego battle, but one must stand back from the canvass and look from other perspectives at times and try to use a little discernment, logic and reason.

I'm assuming you're looking for speed as to strike first within MMA rules. For that I'd suggest a mid level straight punch to the body. If this is a street fight, groin kicks and eye clawing is the fastest aling with a solar plexus shot.
