What is wrong with my weight? :[

At 5'1 and 120 lbs, some people would assume that I look kinda chunky/borderline overweight.

I lost 30 lbs over a range of one year, and I finally managed to get myself down to size S in tops and a 3 in jeans.

But, my older sister is also 5'1 and she just gave birth, meaning that she has a good deal of pregnancy weight on her. She's not fat my any means, but I know that I am a good deal slimmer than her at the moment. But..she weighs 120 lbs too? I'm confused, especially since we're both the same weight and height but...our bodies aren't very close at all.

Any thoughts on this? My ideal weight is to be 110, but a lot of the people I tell that to say that I look like I'm close to that weight already...

Thoughts/Opinions? My weight has constantly been an issue for me and I don't know if I should still be as conscious and worried about it...

Thanks.

Take a look at the before and after pictures thread -and take a look at the number of times the comment is made - You don't look your weight...

There is no set answer as to what a specific weight looks like... So why obsess over it -you'll make yourself neurotic.

No one but you and your doctor ever have to know the exact number.. You don't wear a sign around your neck saying you weigh xxx...

If you are healthy - have a decent diet - and feel good about what you're seeing i the mirror and can walk up a few flights of stairs without needing oxygen.. then be satisfiede.

I agree with the above statement... there are so many factors that contribute to what a person weighs...

If you feel good physically and you feel comfortable with your size -- then what the scale reads is neither here nor there. For a number of years I was very atheletic and at the same height, I appeared more slender then, but weighed MORE than I do now.

I wore a size smaller in most clothing, but my weight was 10-15 pounds more than it is now. My fat/muscle ratio has changed dramatically between the ages of 20 and 32... so, it makes sense. Although I'm still active, I'm not training regularly which has contributed to less lean mass and more fat mass for me.

I get what you mean ummy, my sister and I weigh the same and I am even an inch taller but she has no belly while I do. I don't get it she eat a bunch of fast food and hardly works out while I eat no junk food and workout 4-5 times a week.

There are several things that could cause this. But I think the most likely is lean mass. Muscle weighs more than fat per volume. So ones body make up (body fat % water retention etc...) can account for this. Im 6'1 232lb and 19.5% body fat. So I have a tummy and a solid frame. I look like I am in decent shape. Where as someone else could be 6'1 and 232lb with 30% body fat, and look considerably larger than me. Although our height and weight are the same.

This may not be the case with you, but is a good example on how such differences occur.

Muscle is more dense than fat. Weight is not always a great way to measure how healthy your body is.

If you look at yourself in the mirror and are satisfied with the way you look, then that's all that should matter! If you're happy with your body then nothing else matters.

Considering you've lost 30 pounds and are in very small sizes, as far as clothes go, I think you should be very proud of yourself! You're a healthy weight and I bet you're looking great! :D

I just thought of this but perhaps your sister is lying about her weight? I have no idea how you find out, but it could be a possibility :p
