What is "Weight Training" doing Under Men's Fitness?

Why is the subject of "weight training" under men's fitness, and "toning" under women's fitness? No wonder so many women are steered away from pumping iron.

I believe women have actually more to benefit than even men, particularly since we live longer. Weight training keeps one out of the nursing home and into active life - plus it makes you look fine! So-called toning with the same 3 to 5 lb. mini-weights won't cut it for anyone.

I am particularly upset by the positioning of this topic because I own and operate a website that aims to get more women involved in weight training through better more suited to women.

Would any of you men like to see more women in the weight room?

i agree with you! Ive actually tried to get many of my female friends to realise the benifits of weight trainig, i try to show them how to squat, deadlift, you name it, and tell them that they should do exereices like that and not be afraid of free weights.
many women think they will get big if they do "man training" but fact is, they wont.. and if you get bigger than you want to be, all you gotta to is stop, right?

and yes, i would love to see more women in the weight room, makes me lift 10kg more :D

I agree that the tonning forum should not be called tonning as you can only tone by loosing weight.

Nobody really takes note of the MENS and WOMENS section tho, the women use the weight training forum for questions and mens also use the womens weight loss and yoga forums.

I dont thing there is any need to start moving things around.

I would love to see more women in the weight room too.. I wouldn't feel so lonely then!!! The benifit to women is so understanded. But like Manofkent says no one here really pays much attention to the 'sections' i have my diary and pic's in the men's section and well I'm not a man so...

Women who pump iron . . .

. . .are also the type of woman who are not afraid to post in the "men's" section.

There is no weight lose in the men's section, so men will also have to "cross the line".

I ask questions here often and I am a gal.:p

HEY HEY HEY!!! Didn't you see this is the MEN's SECTION! Get your little butts outa here!!

lol, jp.. yeah I haven't noticed anyone really paying attention to that, although I don't even check the womens' section.. hmm, subconsiously sexist?

EDIT** As for women in the weightroom, great! Just not where I am, I need to concentrate! lol

Yah the way these forums are organized is really messed up. They were not like this before! I think we need to have a thread about this issue... I mean seriously, "weight loss" is NOT a female only thing... Nor is "weight training", these are all bisex (or is it unisex) activities.

if women start lifting heavier weights, they'll get hooked and start becoming body builders and end up with arms bigger than most peoples heads and legs that look like the side of a mountain, jk, just tryin to add some humor to da thread

Yah, this shouldn't be in the men's section.. but there probably isn't a need to separate men's and women's fitness into two different forums either.

However..
Would any of you men like to see more women in the weight room?

I personally don't like that look on a woman, but I'm probably in the minority. A softer curvier body is more attractive to me.

Come on now Servo, don't take this the wrong way. It's just how the forum is set up. You have sections and so do we. But EVERYONE is welcome EVERYWHERE!
