Hello to all!

My name is Chris. I am a 35 year old father of three wonderful kids. My wife just gave birth to my new baby girl a couple of weeks ago. My 13 year old daughter lives with me and my 11 year old son lives with my ex-wife.

So basically I am just your normal everyday divorced middle-class white male.

Or I was until about 18 months ago. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. All lifestyle. Too much junk food, not enough activity. It all finally caught up with me. I now look in the mirror and see a 260lb diabetic with high blood-pressure, sleep apnea, acid reflux, and knees that feel as if they will blow out any day.

I can't believe I let myself go this far.

Reading some of the posts on this forum really gave me some hope. Looking at some of the before and after pics of you guys and seeing the amazing changes that people are making made it clear to me that I can really do this.

I know it won't be easy. I know it won't always be fun. But I really feel like the people on this forum sincerely want to support each other and give real advice and sound criticism.

I want to be a part of that support system. I hope to find ways to give back to this community just as much as I take from it.

Thanks to all of you for sharing yourselves. I want to get better. I really feel that with a little help from all of you here, that I can.

Not looking for sympathy. I got myself in this situation, and I will get myself out. I just understand that the reality is that it is going to be hard work and I may need a little help from my friends here.

Hey Chris,

welcome to the WLF. :D First off, congrats to you and your family with the birth of your beautiful baby girl. Good on you for finding this site and wanting to make a change in your lifestyle. Here are few tips that will make things so much easier for you during your stay at the site:

1. Read all stickied threads- they withhold valuable information on fitness, nutrition etc
2. Start up a food journal/ diary for other members to get to know a bit more about you. Also, this is key when wanting to create support groups/ friendships.
3. Figure out a "plan of attack." Meal plans? Workout plan? etc....
4. Ask questions if you're ever in doubt.
5. Losing weight doesn't have to be so serious, so enjoy yourself and have fun at the site!

Wishing you all the best, doll.

Hello there!
about three months ago I was in your same situation.. health wise...
pre diabetic
over weight
felt like knees were going to bust, especially going down stairs.. I hated that ..

now I fly down the stairs... jog up the stairs ..run to the car ..etc ..
I have a lot of work to go ...too
but my diabeties is slipping away
I was at 100mg/dL yesterday afternoon ..of course that was ...after metaformin in the morning ..but needless to say .. I am doing it ..not doing it well ..but getting there
and today I just learned about caloric intake and burning out take ..

which is a great source ..
but first ..if I were you
I would start a diary... :)
and we all shall visit and lend you support in your journey ..

catch ya later :)
always
