What happens to muscle when losing weight?

I've been working at losing weight while maintaining a good food plan, and a daily workout routine for nearly 2 years. My question has to do with what actually happens to the muscles when working out and maintaining a calorie deficiency. I know that I'm getting stronger, because I do more/lift more, but I also understand that for hypertrophy to take place a calorie surplus is needed. Any info appreciated. Thanks.

You will lose all the muscle when dieting no matter how much you lift. The only way to gain muscle is to add 700 calories to your diet and sit (on your couch, chair, ect.) all day. Also, it wouldn't hurt to kiss a guy (best method to gain A LOT of muscle). Follow my advice and you will lose weight and gain muscle like crazy!

Either stay on topic, or make your jokes funny.

Your recruitment patterns are probably becoming more efficient. So although your muscles might not be growing in size, the neurons that make them contract are becoming better and better at recruiting more and more fibers quicker and stronger. Either way, you're losing weight and getting stronger, be happy :D. lol

Thanks for your reply, but being a guy who's interested in women, the latter part of your advice doesn't really apply. And as for the former, just doing that might add a little muscle, but it'd get an awful lot more fat, and I'm not really interested in cutting yet again.

Thanks - that's what I was looking for... I'm certainly not complaining lol... Was just wondering what actually was taking place to build strength (since it wasn't muscle size).
