what happened to me?

Hello Everyone,

I am baffled hope someone can help. I am 51 and somehow (between the fries and chocolate) I gained 20 lbs. Ok, no prob. I was doing everything wrong. So I started working out two times a week with a trainer and two times 35 minutes on the eliptical. I cut out fried foods and chocolates and otherwise do not eat too much since my favorites are taboo. So after two months I had myself measured and weighed and much to my horror I saw that not one millimeter or an once was gone.

At this point I am at a loss. I know that if I cut back anymore on food I will be in starvation. I eat about 1200-1500 calorie a day and have even started protein supplement drinks.

Any ideas?

i look up calories and fat for what i eat

i wanted to add more protein to my diet esp. after working out

i am female, 5 ft 13/4 in and weigh 124

my main concern is that i made drastic changes esp no eating out and consistently exercising and it would seem that that i should have lost an inch here or there but nothing happened. i do feel stronger though, could it be the muscles are just swapping places with the fat.:

Ah, there's your problem.

says that maintenance for you with no exercise is 1339-1358 calories a day, and maintenance for you with exercise 3x a week is 1535-1556.

So a tiny bit of inaccuracy (and if you aren't weighing all your foods, you're likely going to have some inaccuracy), or even just eating at the top end of your range, and you're eating at maintenance levels.

But even if you're measuring 100% accurately, and eating right in the middle of your range (so say 1350 calories a day), you've got at best a 200-calorie a day deficit. In 2 months, that means you'd be down maybe 3 pounds, and 3 pounds can easily be masked by normal water weight fluctuation.

Personally, I vote that "you're eating too many calories" is the most likely problem. But you'd be in a better position to judge that than I.

You have got to allow yourself some days where you can cheat. I've lost 110 pounds and I know what I am talking about. There are days I can eat a whole ( well a medium size ) bag of M&M's and I can still lose about 2 to 3 pounds per week. 1 day a week, I eat everything I want but I watch my portion sizes still..but I am still losing weight.

Also, mix up your workouts. I do walking, in home walking, weight training with 5 pound weights ( you may want to go lighter, I have been at this awhile) I do water aerobics, cardio kickboxing, inline skating.

thanks for the replys. yes, maybe i am eating too many calories. i was actually trying to boost them a bit because articles say too few is starvation and shuts one down. but i will concentrate on better calories ie. more protein and maybe that will work

i do have my little cheats but have cut them out to four squares of a mini dove a week.

i do mix up my excercising too but i will just keep on and see what happens either way i feel healhier
