What are the Best Supplements?

I've been reading a lot lately about how diet and supplements are so critical to getting results so I've been thinking about buying some supplements. I only have about $40 a month to spend on them. Right now my biggest goal is packing on some muscle throughout my body and trying to cut some fat around my torso area. I was thinking maybe meal replacement shakes? Any suggestions?

The most

Common supplements that weight lifters use: whey protein and multivitamins. You can probably get a month's supply of those two for about $40. Now, if you have some cash to spare, you can add other supplements like creatine, glutamine, etc. . .

Whey protein is something that I've considered. Is their anything like a meal replacement shake that has as much or close to as much protein as whey protein? I haven't read a lot online about multivitamins helping to get results like the one I'm looking for. You also mentioned creatine, glutamine - I don't understand why people take so many different supplements. Most of my friends have ok-crappy diets but lift regularly and they have huge muscles.

Well, that's all it takes is hard work. People take supplements not because they NEED to, but because they have been convinced in one way or another that they are worthwhile.

The best supplement you can have is whey protein. Meal replacements, unless you don't eat enough to begin with, aren't worth it. Would you rather buy regular ground beef, or would you rather pay the same price for ground beef with styrofoam? The best thing you can do before you take supplements is make sure your diet and workouts are in check. If not, don't bother.

Anyway, a good whey you should look into is 100% ON Whey.

Personally, when it comes to supplements, I just stick with a one-a-day multivitamin and whey protein. All of these magical supplements that companies put on the market every few months or so are a waste of time and money if you ask me. Others may disagree, that's fine. I just never found that taking a dozen different supplements in a day that some people take, to be essential.

Whatever results you're looking for, I'm sure that a multivitamin can help alot. Believe it or not, multivitamins are arguably one of the most, if not the most essential supplement that an athlete or weightlifter should use. They give you a days worth of vitamins in a single pill. Read this article about it: Bodybuilding.com - Multivitamins Information and Product Listing! Multivitamins FAQ!

Also, I second what LeiYunFat said. ON (optimum nutrition) Whey is a really good whey protein. It doesn't cost alot and for the price it's the best in the business.

Whey protein is the best supplement in my opinion. Also try Creatine and a multi-vitamin.

Chicken is the real best supplement there is though :)
