Hi!!
I'm 24 years old and my name Wendy, all my friends and family call me Wendola, you guys can call me whatever you want! :)

Let's get down to business. I'm sure you are all used to hearing people complain about how fat they are and how this time is it, they're losing the weight forever and they're changing their lives. Well I know from experience (been there, done that myself) that most of the time that lasts about two weeks and then it's right back on the fat train. The reason for that is not that we rather be fat, no one wants to be fat. The reason is because we're too lazy make the effort, because let's face it, losing weight is hard especially if you do it alone without support from someone.

Well I've been browsing through this forum and I realize that it is indeed possible, that I can totally do this. I've seen people around here that are twice my size and they're doing it, so I can do it too. As of yesterday, I'm a new person. Healthy eating and exercising are now a part of my life. I understand that I need to do this if I don't I will only get bigger and bigger and bigger.

I'm currently 154 lbs, but I'm very short (5'1") so that's a lot for me. I would like to slim down to , correction, I AM GOING TO slim down to 110 lbs which at the low end of the recommended weight for a woman my height. I AM DOING THIS!!

Calf - 14.2 (36.7 cm)

Current Status: (08/22/2007)
Weight: 148 lbs.
Measurements:
Arm - 12.1
Bust - 36.7 [-2.5 in]
Waist - 32.0 [-3.0 in]

Calf - 13.7 [-0.5 in]

Mini Goal: 140 lbs.

Hi and Welcome!

Wow, you certainly have the right mindset!

Certainly you can do this! What changes will you make to your diet to support your weight loss?

Since you want to weigh 110, I would study what a healthy active woman of 110 lbs eats and start doing the same. The mistake I see too many people make is to go too low in calories and being hungry all the time it's easy to cheat.

So good luck and I look forward to reading more!

Hi David!
Thank you for the support and motivation! It is exactly what I need right now. I appreciate it! :)

The changes I'm making are quite a few: First of all I'm exercising now which I didn't do b4 and I'm following a low-calorie regimen, so that I burn off more than I actually consume. I'm not following a SUPER STRICT diet though, like you said, that only leads to hunger which leads to overeating which leads to weight gain and I don't want that. I'm eating healthy. Also, I'm trying to kick off a really bad habit I have of associating food with social activities because that leads me to overeating which is the very thing I need to avoid. I'm keeping a food diary for the first time (yes, I've been on the weight loss train quite a few times) which is very helpful because it will allow me to see what, how much, and why I'm eating.

Also I think it's important to set realistic goals for myself. I know 110 lbs seems like a very low weight, but it's really not. It's what's right for me. And besides I'm not planning to be 110 lbs next week or next month or by Christmas. I have all the time in the world. If it takes me a year or more to get there I won't let that bring me down.

And last but DEFINITELY not least, I'm not doing this by myself this time. I have the support of the people in this forum. I read other people's diaries and it inspires the crap out of me and that's going to help me keep going.

~~ Wendy

Hey there wendy found ya. This looks like a great plan..... :)

And I'm not in a hurry either, so I won't be discouraged if the weight doesn't come off easily. I think it's a mistake to say "I'm losing 10 lbs this month" because at the end of the month when you only lose 4 there comes the disappointment and the loss of motivation. So I'm just taking it one day at a time, and if I only lose two lbs. in a month... hey, I still weight less!! ;)

Besides, all the success stories I'm reading about on this forum are very inspiring! I'm so glad I found this place! :)

Hey Wendy! Thanks for stopping by my diary. It sounds like you have your head in the right place with realistic expectations. You and I are the same age so if you need a workout and diet buddy, I'm here!

Thank you very much Amy, you are too kind! We all need all the support we can get. We're the same age? That's cool!! I see in your diary that you're running, that's very good. I'm doing and let me tell you.... I LOVE IT!!! I did 45 minutes on Monday, 45 yesterday and I'm doing 45 today. It's really a great workout!! :)

ok... so I've been thinking and 44 lbs. to lose is kind of like a big goal for me, so I thought I'd break it down so that I don't lose motivation. I have set myself a mini goal of 14 lbs., I'm currently 154 lbs. so when I get to 140 lbs. I would have achieved a goal and I'll have something to feel proud of!! This is a good thing, I think, because I'm going to focus on losing 14 lbs. and forget about the remaining 30 I need to lose. When I get to 140 lbs. I'll set myself another mini-goal.... this'll work, I'm very excited!! :)

I think it's great to have goals like that. But I personally feel it's better to also have goals that force you to modify your behavior directly. Weight loss is an indirect goal (you have to do something else first and the weight is the result).

So examples are:

My goal is to workout every day this week.
My goal is to eat correctly and record my calories every day this week.

These are goals that by your action you can achieve, the results of which will support a lifestyle which will cause weight loss.

Reason being, if you meet these two goals and gain a pound instead of losing you will know you did everything right and your body is changing or you're retaining water or something. So you are still successful in your goals.

If your goal is to lose a pound this week and you instead gain a pound, you have failed in your goal (despite doing everything right).

So if you focus on the process (lifestyle) rather than the product (weight loss) I think it will be easier to maintain for the rest of your life, which is what you want, right?

David you have no idea how much I thank you for these words. You are totally completely and absolutely right!! I had never thought of it that way.

If my goals are like you say "Exercise everyday this week" or "Not cheat this week" or things of that nature I have control over them and I can make them happen. Weight loss, like you say, sometimes won't happen even when you're doing everything right, and that's very discouraging because it makes us feel like we've failed even when we did what we were supposed to do.

But if my goal is to exercise everyday this week and I don't then I DID fail, but at least I won't lose motivation because it was my choice, I was the one that did not work out everyday when I said that I would.

I'm totally taking your advice and I'm going to set myself goals that I actually have control over. I still want to have a Weight Loss oriented goal though, but I won't focus on that one. I'll focus on eating healthy and exercising every day and, like you say, the weight loss will follow.

Once again, thank you very much. God! I love this forum!! You're all great people here!! :)

David is definitely right. And it's great that you take advice so willingly. Alot of people wanna do it their way and do not open their minds to other ideas. You are off to a great start.

As for the spinning, PAINFUL! But I love it too. It definitely gets your HR up. Have you tried kickboxing?

The way I see it... my method sucks!! I've been on the weight loss train way too many times already, it's ridiculous! So I need to try something else and what David suggests makes a lot of sense and I've never looked at it from that perspective. I'm very thankful for those words he said because they really did change my way of looking at this whole thing. I'm not focusing on the weight I'm losing but on the lifestyle changes I need to make. And let me tell you, I feel great already because I have it under control. There's no uncertainty about any of it, it's all up to me. I love it!!! :)

I love the Spinning class I'm taking, I just love it! It's kind of addictive actually because it makes you feel so good and so energized that you just want to do it and do it and do it. But I'll give you that though, it is very painful. My thigh muscles are constantly burning like crazy as long as I'm on that bike. I've tried Kick Boxing in the past and I also like it, but for now I've found my soul mate in Spining. I'm doing 45 minutes a day but I want to do more, it's hard though. I have to work on my endurance. :jump:

Hey Wendy! 45 minutes is really great with the spinning. The first time I tried it I only got 8 mintues. My ass was so sore the next day.

Your right about the lifestyle change. It makes you feel so much better. 6 years ago I forced myself to drop all sodas and sugar. It was hard for a few months but now I hate sodas and rarely want anything sweet. Your body definitely adjusts over time.

Tell me about it, my butt is killing me!! But I love it!! lol
I don't drink soda on a regular basis, I mean I don't buy it as part of my groceries or anything. I don't want no kidney stones on my way!! hehe!!

Today I successfully went through my first determination and will power test!! :)

I have lunch at my parents' house because it's close by to where I work. Since now I'm changing my lifestyle I can no longer just eat what my mom makes (we're Dominican and our food is rather fattening) what I do is I fix my own lunch at home every morning and I eat it at my mom's. Well this morning I did just that but the problem was that I left it at home.

When I got to my mom's house they was LITERALLY nothing I could have eaten without it being over 500 calories, but I refused to eat it because my goal is not to cheat this week and I had to take control, and since I'm not about to skip any meals, I just left, went to grocery store, bought some lettuce, some fish, went back to my mom's, and made myself a healthy meal.

I'm so proud of me. This feels so good. David was right, setting ourselves goals that we actually have control over is the way to go. Thanks David!! :)

Way to go! You'll fins that after a month or two of doing this you will feel like a new peson.

My office is having a birthday party this afternoon in the lounge so I will be confronting the same kind of urges. While they are eating their chocolate cake with chocolate ganache frosting, I will be munching on a damn apple.
