Weights Cause Shoulder & Lower back Pain

Hi

I am using the treadmill regularly but when i try to use dumbbells, i get shoulder pain and lower back pain, most probably due to bad posture and technique

I do not have access to any gym or a trainer.

I used to lift dumbbells to my sides and in the front.

I am for the past 2 days using the treadmill with 5 lbs dumbells in each hand and swinging them till my shoulder height slowly with 5 mins on and 5 mins off routine for a total of 40 mins burning about 250 calories.

Is it advised to do this routine ?
When i remove the weights fior the 5 mins period, i increase the incline and the speed and do MIIT if 20sec/40sec routibne and lower it again when i have dumbbells.

I do not have problems till now in my shoulder or lower back.

I want to vary my treadmill routine as i am hitting a weight loss plateau and i am not able to go below 89 Kgs for the past 2-3 months.

Any suggestions or advice

I see this couple after I get off work who do this. I don't understand it.

Is the purpose to burn more calories?

You should do strength training instead me thinks if its to build arm strength, but I don't think thats your intention.

General rule i think is, if something causes pain stop doing it. Like touching a hot stove. I'm no expert though. I've read those ski pole things help burn more calories, I don't know if you can use them on a treadmill though, I guess you could if they won't damage it. Maybe check into that?

there's a search feature on this forum - please use it...

When you search you will learn that orthopedists will tell you one ofthe dumbest things in the worls you can do is use dumbbells while walking or running - it throws off your natural alignment... and you get pain...
