Weight Watchers vs. Gold's Gym "Quick Start" study

Press release:
Full article:

Basically, they compared overweight overfat women (BMI = 30.2, BF% = 40.4%) enrolling in Weight Watchers or Gold's Gym "Quick Start" over 12 weeks.

The Weight Watchers group lost weight, but did not significantly reduce body fat percentage. The Gold's Gym "Quick Start" group did not significantly change weight or body fat percentage, and had a high dropout rate.

I'm sure plenty of people lost plenty of BF from weight watchers, their program is basically just having you eat in a big deficit.

They lost body fat, but they also lost lean tissue, so their body fat percentages did not significantly improve even though they lost weight.

The vast majority of weight watcher's clients are women, and to them they don't care if they are losing fat and muscle at the same time, as long as they get leaner. Which they did.

Ya that is why a too big deficit or not including weight training will result in muscle and fat lost.
