Weight training and boxing?

Hey,

I've recently decided to join boxing again. But the problem is - I'm bulking.

I'm not going to doing any serious boxing competitions any time soon so I don't need to worry about "making weight" or anything (I'll mostly just be training/developing skills for a year or two), boxing is just something I enjoyed doing in the past and I've decided to join the gym again.

So anyway back to the point - I want to gain weight (majority of it being muscle) while I'm taking boxing lessons, would this be ok or should I just wait until I hit my goal weight then just do regular strength training with the boxing lessons (which will take a while)?

The routine I'm planning on starting is this:

Day 1
Jogging 30-45 mins (5 am)
2 hour boxing session (5 pm-ish)

Day 2
Full body workout, reps 12 x 3 training for size.

Day 3
Jogging 30-45 mins (5 am)
2 hour boxing session (5 pm-ish)

Day 4
Full body workout, reps 12 x 3 training for size.

Day 5
Jogging 30-45 mins (5 am)
2 hour boxing session (5 pm-ish)

Day 6
Full body workout, reps 12 x 3 training for size.

Day 7
Break (might possibly include a little yoga, light nothing heavy)

do you think that would be alright or am I over-training? Boxing lessons basically conist of:
shadow boxing
punching bag
speed bag
ring training (dunno the term for that)
skipping
conditioning (pushups, crunches, leglifts, etc... light stuff)

You're the only one that knows if you're overtraining or not. You don't really provide much information on your routine and what movements you're doing.

Spend most of your time in the gym training like an athlete and for pre-hab purposes and let your boxing take care of hte rest.

See but I don't want to be lifting in the gym for boxing (like I said earlier, boxing is more just a hobby of mine currently and it's nothing I take too seriously), I want to train for mass not strength.

My main question is, if I take boxing will that effect my goal for building mass greatly? Because the next day after I do my full body workouts I'll be hitting the bag, doing light exercises, etc. for boxing... so would those days not be considered rest because I'm using my muscle so much? I'm a bit confused.

Also here's my full body routine:

Squats 3 x 12
Deadlifts 3 x 12
Rows 3x12
Pullups 3 x max
Seated Military Press 3 x 12
Dips 2 x 12
Bicep Curls 2 x 12
Dumbbell Press 2 x 12

not the best but I think it's alright.

Well, I'd just say if boxing is a hobby then no big deal. You're going to ahve adjust your sleeping and eating for a bit of extra recovery since your activity level is high.

Your routine is fine. I might change up the set/rep patterns intermittently. I would periodize in a time for strength training or at least try and put in some strength gains through the week. An example might be on one of your days, work up to a 3RM on deadlift, on another a 3RM on squat, and on another a 3RM on bench. The stronger you are, the heavier you can lift=a greater chance of hypertrophy (with calorie considerations).

thanks for replying,
I'm a bit afraid to do rep-maxes though, since I'm only 14 and I've read it can damage your growth plates.
Would instead you suggest I switch up my set/rep pattern to something like 8x4 using heavier weight? So I still reach hypertrophy but also gain some strength for boxing and for the reason you suggested?

I didn't realize you were 14. No, I wouldn't recommend maximal lifting at your age. If you were to lower the reps, hit the 6-8 rep range. You're growing like a weed right now, so bulking will come slowly.
