Weight sleds and Romanian Deadlifts

We started doing weight sleds for my weight training at school. I was wondering, besides cardio, what does it do? Quad endurance? And should you feel like your going to throw up and pass out after doing them? It was brutal and i dont think ive ever felt that screwed up before in my life.

Also, do Romanian Deadlifts do the exact same muscles as Glute Ham Raises. (For those of you who don't know what these are, you use the machine where you can lock your feet in behind you and theres a big pad, and u start upright with your feet at a 90 degree angle with your body and slowly extend outward until you are flat, and raise back up.) I ask because I cannot do a single GH Raise without my hamstrings and calves cramping up right away. I am searching for a substitute to build up more, so that I can do them because our trainer says the exercise is vital.

I did weight sleds in HS and the beginning of College for speed training as a RB.

Sled dragging is one of the best exercises out there. You can do it many different ways, focusing on hamstrings, or any muscle group that needs a higher work capacity.

Sprinting with the sled is only a fraction of what can be done. Truly one of the most versatile pieces of equipment.

Romanian deadlifts are nothing like a glute ham raise (GHR). GHR's are one of the few exercises that train the hamstring from the origin and insertion at the same time. They are very important.

You can adjust the adjustment back so that your lever arm is shorter. It will be a smaller range of motion, but will allow you to do them. As you get better move the adjustment up one by one. You will be able to do it in no time. (I hope that made sense.) :D

Slightly off topic...you guys have any ideas how to make cheap sleds?

YES! I made one out of 4x2 some slats of timber some old skis a rope and I made a harness with a sewing machine and some old car seatbelts.

Make a square of desired shape, Screw some skis onto the bottom of the long edges of your square. Screw slats onto the square making a bed for the weights and also making your square rigid. Secure a pole vertically off the sled to put the weights on. Stick a ring on the front to attach the rope attach to yourself and run like buggery.

Also I answer to the question above the reason you were probably feeling sick was because of you reaching your anaerobic threshold. PC + atp system

Yeah, our day 3 is BRUTAL. We do...

Close stance full squats - 5 x 10
Straight-Leg Deadlifts - 5 x 5
Hanging leg raises - 4 x 12
Sled Runs - 3 x 2 trips, each trip is about 200 m, so 400 m in one set.

I've seen a varsity RB doing sleds with like 100+ lbs. on it doing sprints. He could still probably out sprint anyone even with the extra weight lol. Then a couple other football guys were doing it. I plan on doing some work with sleds in July.

Lei...wow, that guy is an absolute beast. o_O

How about leg kickbacks? Do those do the same muscles as GH Raise? I tried them again today and failed on the first rep again.
