Weight loss tip for a beginner

Hello All,

I"m a 21 year old who is not satisfied with the way i look. As i'm in college, i am much more bigger than my college mates and am looking to lose weight seriously once and for all. I'm not that big but to me, i feel i can be much smaller. Like i said, i'm only 21 and i'm about 5"8. I weigh about 204 llbs and my BMI is 30.9 which puts me at obese. I have a huge chest and belly which makes me look big from the side compared to people with flat chest and just a big belly(looks like beer belly) Currently my food intake is not too calorie heavy and i play low contact basketball every now and then. It seems that my weight is stagnant all the way and i'm trying to exercise more. Can anyone recommend me what is the best way i can loose weight? i have had ACL replacements on both my knee due to playing bball and i want to know what can i do for cardio? how much should i run per day? and should i run and workout every day? Is there a good workout for weight loss and as well muscle growth? Also since i'm starting new, should i start taking protein shakes and creatine after my workouts and also if i should take protein shakes after morning runs? Thank you so much for all your help and it's just i'm trying real hard to control my intake and i just don't know how much i should calories i should aim to intake and how much exercise i should do. I know this might all seem dumb but i really have no clue. Thank you so much guys.

Hi, I thing you should start with walking half an hour per day and after that if you manage to walk regularly with no any problem you should try running for that you can also seek advise form doctor. Try to give your best. Apart form exercise you need to concentrate on your diet you will loose when you burn calories more than you eat. Eat more water and protein rich diet.
Good luck.

If you want to burn some calories while keeping the stress off your legs, try working on a heavy bag or using battle ropes.

If you're trying to lose weight, I wouldn't bother with protein shakes. Just get good, natural sources of protein, fats and cals. Just eat in a deficit. Creatine is a matter of personal opinion.

I'm no doctor, so I can't tell you what to do as far as working your legs is concerned, but hitting upper body heavy with weights will really help the weight loss.

The most important thing is to eat in a deficit. You aren't going to lose weight if you're eating a surplus of cals.

Weight loss and muscle growth, I will amend this to what I think you mean, fat loss and muscle growth. Muscle is heavy stuff so if you are going to be scales focused and wanting losses muscle gain is likely to be slow or non-existant.
Your ability to run will come down to what your body will allow. I will not say ignore doctors advice because I am not an idiot. I did ignore a lot of doctors advice until they found me some who were prepared to challenge me. Plus side I can run, down side I have daily pain, make your own decision but be aware of the costs.
There is plenty of low impact stuff you can do, including speed walking, which much as it may look a little strange is incredibly good stuff for losing fat and toning the core. I have been speed-walked past when running before so it is not the soft option some think it is.
Muscle gain, dangerous teritorry without knowing how your knees will hold out. there is a session here http://training.fitness.com/weight-...inefficient-split-maybe-read-first-34522.html which is great for starting out if there are no injuries but you may not be able to do.
I totally ignore BMI, mine is nearly the same as yours, so I am severely overweight especially for someone with a pathetic frame like mine, but at under 17% body fat not obese by a long shot. Height and weight are a tiny part of the tale, composisiton is key.
Protein shakes will help you gain fat if you are eating a western diet, I posted about this in diet myths. Creatine is at it's core an energy supplement for when you are at the very limits on short burst training, sprints heavy weights etc. Not really what you are aiming for.

Find stuff you enjoy first and foremost. You want things that will take time and effort so you have to be ready to stick to them.

Diet wise, if you are wanting to gain muscle I would say stick with normal diet and do more, if you want losses reduce all round, don't cut out.
