Weight Loss Through Diet Alone...?

Hi guys,

I am at 315 pounds right now, and it is extremely hard for me to work out. I absolutely hate exercise at this point, as everything (even walking) is so much harder for me than the average person. So the only thing I have been focusing on right now is nutrition for losing weight.

My question is, can you continue to lose weight with diet alone- and will it be a much slower process? Do you lose muscle mass if you don't work out? Anyone who can shed some light on this, let me know. :)

At 315 lbs you can probably lose a fair amount with just diet. As you lean out you'll see a higher risk of muscle loss. I don't know that it would be all that much slower though.

I'd recommend trying to do strength training as you feel up to it - probably twice a week or once every 5 days or so, but if it's that hard, lose some more weight and see if it gets easier ;)

Yes you should be able to. Right off the bat I lost 40lbs pretty much by just changing what I ate. While I did get some exercise during that period and prior I did not change my workout routine until just recently. I focused on mainly eating single ingredient foods. That really worked well for me.

Actually, dieting is the only thing that's actually caused me to lose weight. I worked out for years and never dropped a pound. So absolutely you can lose weight by diet alone. Once you get down to a weight that feels more comfortable on your body, you can (and I believe you should) revisit exercise. I think exercise is far more important for other things regarding your overall health than for weight loss.

I'll chime in and say that exercise is for fun and relief of stress, diet is the only thing that has made me lose weight.

I started my weight loss by just exercising. I lost a few pounds but didn't really start dropping until I started counting calories. My moto, from weight watchers "if you lick it or bite it make sure you write it". It's all about what you put in your mouth.

Exercise is crucial

Hi,

Exercise should be part of your diet plan. I know it is hard to do to start with, but you really do need to be getting between 30-60 minutes per day, 5 days a week.
Diet alone will help you lose weight, but the chances of you keeping the weight off are greatly reduced.
