Weight Loss Journey for Feeling Gooder

Was time to scratch off another of my goals from my first post. Completed a 5k race today and it went surprisingly well.

Started at a decent pace for the first km but then didn't notice the 2km marker so I started picking up my leisurely pace and before I knew it I was at the 2.5k turnaround point. Second half of the run hurt quite a bit more but finished with a chip time of 29:15 which blew my target time out of the water.

Rest of the week has gone well, been concentrating on getting more calories in each day as all this activity is really burning a lot of fuel.

Shooting for 2700 calories a day at this point but it's really hard to eat that many when the food is healthy. More snacks!!!

Way to go on the 5 K

People must be noticing the fitter you!

I am in refocus mode...I gotta get going again

Yeah, people are really starting to notice now, especially anyone that I haven't bumped into in the last month or so. Went through my closets and purged well over half my wardrobe that was starting to look way too big. Have to stay this size or smaller or else it's going to mean a shameful trip out to repurchase bigger clothes again.

Hard to grow back into my bigger clothes if you don't have any....

Sounds like it's time to string together a series of good individual days... Start with the weekly goals and meal preparations for the week maybe?

Down another 1.2 lbs this week and under 240 lbs so scratched another goal off the first post. Next on the list is finishing a 10k run by the end of May so looks like it's time to start increasing the indoor and outdoor running schedule.

Only 4.2 lbs away from my original goal weight but in no hurry to get there as I'm quite happy to be at my current weight for a while, if the extra training shakes off a few extra pounds fine, but if not that's ok too. Will continue eating high amounts of healthy calories and focus on the running and strength training.

Hope everyone out there is still enjoying the journey and finding ways to keep motivated now that we're getting a little deeper into the year for those who also started out in January.

The number on the scale does mean a lot less to me now as it's now more about the physical challenges I can tackle. Think I'm entering a new phase of the journey as the focus has shifted from weight loss.

On Sunday I went out for a 4 mile run that I completed without walking and followed it up Monday by taking a group fitness class that kind of kicked my a$$ but I survived and actually did pretty well considering I still outweighed everyone else in the class by a good 80 pounds.

Today's exercise was jumping on a treadmill and putting in a 5k in 28:15 which included running at a 7.0 for well over half of the time... Have become a big fan of podrunner interval mixes for running as the constant beat seems to help me keep a steady pace.

Thanks IrishPrincess,

It has felt great to get into the 230s again. I'm now within 6lbs of the lightest I have been in about 10 years if I had to guess.

Haha nice job one the weight loss man. looks kike we are both on track for our goals which is definitely good. However, you have just set me a challenge, to do 5k in under 28 minuters, lol. I like this competition bit as it gets me motivated, dont know about you lol. hope it does. Had a sneaky weigh in today and was sitting in at 106kg, so pretty pleased, but its not official untill the weigh in day lol. I actually enjoy the gym especially the weight training as its brining the shape out of me, I can see my bis and tris dare I say . ill probably take a pic and show you now compared to before lol. would be good :

Hey Zak,

Congrats on the weigh in, 106 is pretty awesome so you should find a huge difference when you get on the treadmill. Let me know when you break the 28 minute mark and what new mark I need to hit. Running in the 230s is easier than where we started but still hurts quite a bit. Also, thanks for the reminder about the strength training as I need to amp that aspect up as it's nice to see muscles start showing up. Bring on the before and after pics, I'm going to start weekly weigh in pics again since I'm pretty much starting out now where I left off in 2009.

Have to get back on the Wii fit this weekend since I weigh in a few pounds lighter than my scale and I'm almost out of the obese BMI now.

You are no longer my evil twin...you are now my skinny brother...Congrats...I am back...dazed tired and a bit unorganized but I am back

Hey Feelinggooder,

What a nice read on your diary...congratulations on meeting your goals and making such great progress on the weightloss...and moving on to the next chapter of your life...wow! You are such an inspiration...always so positive and uplifting...Thank you, Thank you, Thankyou!

I will get there eventually...not there yet...but I am starting to feel better about myself too..boy has that taken awhile!

Thanks for stopping in my diary while I was out...and yes, I did find a good elliptical machine in Shanghai and I did start to get readjusted..didn't get enough water (which led to a little bout of constipation..arghh...but I think I'm over it now!).

Again, congratulations on making your goals...I know if you can do it, so can I!

Sarah

Ahhhhh, the return of Brawny and Sarah!!! Great to see you both back online, hopefully oldschool will also be back soon.

Decided to take advantage of the spring weather and get out for a trot around the block (I live in the country so my "block" is actually a 4 mile loop. Finished the loop in under 40 minutes today so making progress on the time/distance at least.

Strength training has been taking a back seat to cardio so will be setting some weight lifting goals for the upcoming week.

Down another 1.4 lbs and another slight loss on the body fat % so counting it as a good week. Need another 2.8 lbs to hit my original goal weight so should hit it in a week or two.

Going to set some weekly goals for the upcoming week to force me to work on weights a little more. Did 50k of lifting last time I tried a weekly goal so this week going to shoot for

70k of total weight lifted

600 pushups

5 minutes of holding plank

10 km of jogging total

Wow feelinggooder..you are rocking it...only 2.8 pounds to your original goal...gotta imagine how great that feels. :hurray: I went to the Fat2fit website and downloaded the podcast and listened to it on the elliptical this morning...really interesting stuff! Thanks for sharing that site...I'm going to subscribe to the podcast! I don't understand all the BMR and deficit etc...but the review they gave on the book wheat belly sounded good enough for me to download that book and put it on my ipod touch...I've been looking for a good book to try to download and that looks like a good one!

Well, take care feeling gooder and congratulations again on making the awesome progress!!

Sarah

Took another group fitness class at lunch today. Managed to keep up and gave myself a little treadmill warm-up test to see if I could get under an 8 minute mile before taking the class, might not have been the best idea in hindsight but I did enter the class well warmed up.

Clocked the 1 mile at 7:48 without puking or passing out so will have to start working towards a 7:30 next. Not overly fast but it's progress...

Put in a good weight workout last night and 100 pushups so also making progress on the AWGTKMIL (arbitrary weekly goals to keep me in line....)

Thanks Brawny,

Have decided to switch over to purely activity goals and body fat percentage instead of the number on the scale. Have a 10k run scheduled for the end of May and have set a goal of hitting under an hour for it and planning to do another 10k towards the end of this month as a checkup. Also have a 5k Spartan race scheduled for early June which is a combo running and obstacle course.

Have also been idly considering whether to sign up for a half marathon or a triathlon sprint event later in the year. Figure I will likely drop a bit more weight if I manage to achieve even half the things I am planning for myself as my intention is to constantly be working towards another goal... will see how it goes but looking forward to the adventure.

big weekend coming up, family, turkey and hopefully exercise. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Found my old pedometer and managed to get it working again so going to track footsteps for a while. Also since spring is in the air, I'm going to see if I can give the mountain bike a little tune up and get it back on the road this weekend.

Looking forward to the weekend and the Sunday weigh in will hopefully keep me in line for the most part.

AYou're killing it man. Great job. I am planning in doing a 5k in June and a 10k in August. I'm excited to get back into running races again.

Wow Feelinggooder, you're my idol man! I love how your self confidence is allowing you to switch up your strategies and lifestyle and focus on fitness rather than the number. I'm not quite there yet. I highly recommend the marathon as a goal...I did one back in 1999 at probably the same weight as I am now but I was doing alot of carbo loading to sustain my energy in the long runs, so I really didn't lose alot of weight...but I was very fit. I used a book by Jeff Galloway called "Marathon" (I think that's the name, but not really sure and the book is in storage)..anyway, his method is to integrate walking and running and then pacing yourself so that you have enough energy to do the long runs. I found the book very helpful and a good method.

Have a wonderful Easter weekend and enjoy the food, family and all the other goodies...and exercise!

Sarah

Thanks Sarah,

I've heard a few mentions of this Galloway figure and might have to check out the book. Long term I might look at a marathon and or a short triathlon as something else to work towards. Kind of kicking myself lately that I didn't have enough confidence back in January to sign up for the half marathon at the end of May. When I finally realized I would have been able to train for it, the half marathon was sold out. Still signed up for the 10k at the end of May and starting to look at half marathons a little further out which is the nice thing.

As long as the progress continues there's always another race and goal on the horizon. Main thing is to gradually build up to them to prevent injuries and not overdo it.

Weekly weigh in tomorrow so will have to try to be a good boy tonight... Easter Dinner on the other hand will probably see a slightly larger meal than I am used to...
