hi guys

im a new member and im from kuwait - im 27 old male - work as a secretary in a high school - married and got a nice looking kid ^_^ .

# THE BEGINING :-

since i was 14 old i been obese and in 2002 i made my 1st ever weight loss program in hopes of getting accepted in the army college to become an officer graduate.

sadly after 2 years of applying though i lost like 30 kg (66 lbs) i didnt get in (in kuwait sadly the system is corrupted ...if u dont know anyone inside ur cut even if u did well in the tryouts) .

# JOINING THE DARK SIDE :-

after that i got mentally disturbed and angry and simply didnt continue in weight control cause tbh i only wanted to lose it to get in the militry college
and gained it all back with extras.

since that time i ballooned to 128 kg ( 281.6 ).

i have tryed many many times in the last 9 years to lose the weight but it was all a closed circle .

the weight for me isnt abt good looking or getting in shape or getting good clothes.

weight for me is that dark cloud filled with dark thoughts and endless suicidal destructive waves of hatret and low esteem.

i dont get outside of my home alot only goin to work. alot ppl and friends of mine invites me to partys and trips and i have to turn them down ... i wished to go but...im ashamed of my body...i always think that ppl stares at me all the time or even talk abt me negatively behind my back...if i wasnt a believer in god i would be dead by now by commiting suicide.

its not a journey of getting good looking body or fit in clothes or anything like that crap...its all abt surviving mentally in this world.

im like a toothless caged tiger that never tasted freedom since birth.

# A NEW HOPE :-

2 weeks ago i accidentally got into a diet restaurant called LO-FAT i didnt see there sign i only smelled there nice cookings and got in thought its only a normal restaurant...i ate a 317 calories meal called chicken rab ...and i asked for the menu to check and then i was like : WAT THE F...

THIS WAS A DIET MEAL ???? howcome? its very tasty and filled me up how did that happen??

then i realized after 9 years i actually was eating a 500 - 700 calories per day diet...and realized that im supposed to be eating minimum of 1200 calories.

i knew by now that my destiny of weight losing has come...the torment is abt to end and the allmighty have decided to be gentle on me and give me this 1 more chance.

now im eating a healthy 1230 - 1500 diet weekly and doing a great 6 days aerobics/walking/swiming.

for me now life isnt abt losing the weight and go party again and gaining it all back...now i realize wat did DR.PHIL mean when he said (u have to make it a lifestyle not a weight loss ) and he was damn straight...after i got a healthy diet plan and a good training ...its not a weight loss for me anymore tbh lol its a way of life...and damn it! its a nice way of life im alot healthy now :D

Well! That's a fascinating introduction. Thank you for sharing it all with us and welcome to this site. I hope you will stick around.

If you haven't already, start a diary in the diary section of this forum and because I am really interested in healthy yummy low cal food, especially when its got foreign flavours, I am going to be on your back about whatever you eat - unless its just all chicken chicken chicken - cause i don't eat much chicken. Just the occasional duck.

I have a ton of questions (and comments ) but i won't overwhelm you.

I will just say this. What is your height? And, its likely that even 1200-1500 is not enough for you. If you are a short arse, ok but you know when they say a minimum of 1200 calories, that's for women! Men have faster metabolisms than women and they should eat much more.

So you need to calculate what calories you should be eating, if you haven't already by using a BMR calculator and going from there. ... (I swear i should type up some instructions and just cut and paste every time I want to say this but i have to say it nearly ever day to a newbie and often more than one. Well i don't have to but i want to help people so i feel i have to.) ...but anyway, there's a process to go through to working out how many calories you should eat per day.

It sounds like you suffer from depression. Have you considered getting treatment. I think its very sad that you are so uncomfortable in your skin that you won't even go out to social occasions that you've been invited to. Certainly people are not thinking what you think they are thinking about you. That's what is called "projection" in psychological parlance. Its what you think, its not what they are thinking.

What about your wife? Is she a support and confidante to you? Anyhow, i urge you to start therapy for your self esteem and body issues. And maybe talk to your doctor about antidepressants. Get him/her to diagnose you properly and talk about therapy/counselling with them. They should help you find someone. In Kuwait are your doctors Kuwaiti or westerners? I ask because my sister lives in UAE and they have lots of western doctors there.

I love it how you found a diet restaurant. I sometimes dream of starting one of these here. We don't have any such thing in Australia but this is the first time i have ever heard of such a place existing. PLease report on their foods for us.

considering the psychological issues dont u worry abt that i was like 18 old by that time and im 27 now and i can say im healthy in that manner and very happy in that corner .

but ofc there will always be that small part of me that tells me to finish the dream i always wanted wich is losing the weight :D

im 5"6 inch in tall and 168 cm - shorty

i already check sites and know abt BMR AND BMI and i was 1500-1800 weekly but 1200 is also minimum and can hold it weekly.

i will also soon post my daily intake and we all gonna have fun stay tuned!! :D

And then i can work it out. How did you work it out to get such a low rating?

But basically 1200 is a minimum BMR for women. My minimum is actually 1233 i think. 1200 just about covers a woman's requirements for essential bodily function. Men need higher. I think i've seen somewhere something more like 1500. Its because you have more muscle mass than us. As you may already know more muscles faster metabolism and so men have a faster metabolisms than women. Fact!

So given all of that you do need more calories than you've told us you are eating but i can't work out a good estimate unless i know the above information and can work out your correct maintenance calories.
 
Oh i'm starting to find your stats but they are all over the place. You say you are doing 6 days of exercise a week. How long are you sessions?


If you are 281.6kg still, i got you as having a bmr of 2063
with execise...3300calories per day - based on 6 moderate exercise sessions per week. (2063 x 1.6)

As a guide to minimum calorie intake, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recommends that calorie levels never drop below 1200 calories per day for women or 1800 calories per day for men. Even these calorie levels are quite low.


If you eat only 1800 calories when you daily maintenance is 3300, you should lose weight quite fast. But it would be more comfortable for you to reduce your calories only to 2300 per day. Lucky you. This means you can eat quite a lot of things including desserts if you can do it in moderation.

Because you have been eating so few calories, it would be a good idea to increase your calories not too fast so that you body's metabolism can adjust, i think, without causing any weight gain.

If you are actually lighter than 281 pounds can you give us your current weight?

im 27 and 168 cinemeter = 5"6

weighing 123.3 kg = 271 pounds

exercise is 6 days = 30-45 mins = low impact aerobis / 4 - 4.5 mph walking / swiming

my bmr is 2411

it says on a calculator :

1- A. To maintain current weight : 4160 calories per day
2- to lose 2 pounds per week : 3160 calories per day
3- to gain 1 pound per week : 4660 calories per day

are these calculations are right ??

I get 2413 from my calculations for BMR and I would rate your exercise as moderate so 2413 X 1.8 = 4343 to maintain

so 3843 would be your estimated calories for loosing but this will depend on your metabolism and variation in the intensity of your exercise but it should only be considered a starting point and adjusted down or up depending on the effect it has because your not going to get exact figures unless your BMR is measured in a controlled environment by doctors.
 
aint gonna lie to ya

i never got used to an only 1 kilogram per week lose its kinda brings boredom for me

but i got to try to be patient

better to get my dream later than never
 
Hey Sabrek, welcome!

I agree with trusylver here - using the estimations of daily calorie needs is OK for a starting point. But if you eat a certain amount of calories each day and exercise 6 days per week and you're not seeing results, you'll have to adjust your daily intake accordingly.

I'm an American here in Kuwait

I know exactly what and where that Lo-Fat Restaurant is. Every time I go by there I think about going in but at the same time I'm trying to stay out of the restaurants.

Now that you have posted more about it, I'll have to try it out.
