I have been looking around the net for weight loss programs, there are just too many to choose from.

Could anyone recommend one from personal experience.

Thanks,

the "plan" you want to use is the one you will stick with for the rest of your life...

read around the forums a bit, especially the stickied threads -

find your the calories that you need to survive the day, based on your exercise level and cut that number a bit.

weight loss, as you'll read,is a mattterof using more calories than you take in...

Thanks..I found one that Im going to try

Thanks for the advice, yes finding one I can stick with is good advice.

I have looked at hundreds, and one or two stand out.

I found and as it totally free and seemingly sensible I figured I would give that a try. It's simple so long as I can get used to not eating after 6pm and that hour of walking.

I would be very interested to hear from anyone who has done this plan for a while.

Seems great doesn't it? No dieting, eat what you want, how ever much as you want - just eat 3 times per day at regular times, never after 6pm, and walk one hour per day.

Walking for an hour a day is going to help. Any extra activity that burns energy that you wouldn't have otherwise burnt is going to help you lose weight. Swimming, cycling, gardening, household chores, running, jogging, gym, football, cricket, kick boxing, etc etc - all are alternatives.

The problem with the method is that it is based on unsound judgment. The prisoners were subject to a lifestyle change, that made them eat regular meals, take regular exercise, etc. But they were probably subject to other factors ie. "obviously the more healthy your meals the more quickly you will lose weight". Portion sizes were probably also limited. Popping out to the pub or chip shop were almost certainly unlikely.

The sound advice in the method in my opinion are: change your lifestyle, eat a breakfast, take regular exercise, don't starve yourself.

But in addition, controlling portion size, eating good healthy foods, avoiding bad foods and drinks, controlling calorific consumption are also important for long term weight loss.

Stop looking for a program and start changing your lifestyles, step by step.

You want long term results that are going to last.....

Get rid of the "program" mentality. Start a journal here and begin to learn.

I think you are right, but I'm also quite convinced that the concept of eating three meals at the same times is important.

I'm not sure about the proven scientific basis, if any, but it seems to me that our bodies have a mechanism for choosing how much energy to store in the form of fat cells. That seems to be why crash diets don't work, because as soon as you start eating again your body stores fat to safeguard against another diet.

If your body gets used to eating at the same times every day and the same sized portions, then your body may be tricked into not storing any energy in the form of fat cells because it would not be required.

I'm only a few days into this, and it's tough for me to eat at the same times every single day, and very tough not to eat after 6pm. I suspect that the greatest benefit for me will come from the hour of walking every day. It has rained a fair bit so I spent the other day walking round a shopping mall without stopping to look into the shops!

My concern with the "plan" promoted by ccweightloss.org is that it suggests that I can eat what I like.

Also, and I don't know if anyone else agrees, but prisoners must surely be depressed or at least stressed when the arrive and that must result in loss of appetite. I have seen how people under extreme stress, anxiety or reactive (rather than clinical) depression can loose a lot of weight in a short time.

After my first few days I do feel better, but I guess thats the regular walks.

I think you can pretty much eat what you like in moderation and portion control but I would save that for when weight loss is well underway. I try not to eat after 7pm except for light fruits or something like that, a bowl of whole grain cereal with fat free milk, if I am really hungry. I lost 20lbs, not by going to the gym, but by portion control, taking in much less fatty foods, and not eating very much after 7pm, and drinking plenty of water with fresh lemon. Oh, and by cutting back on alcohol. Its really pretty simple. No program needed.
