Weight Lifting stuns growth factor?

Ive searched for the answer to my question, but I couldn't really find any that helped me, so im just wondering, if weight lifting while standing / sitting / lying down or all stuns growth . I am currently 5'8 at 17 years old, and i do enjoy working out, but my growth is more important to me .

You've got nothing to be worried about, your almost finishing growing too!

I think this is a myth but I'm not sure. I personally don't think my growth has been stunted by weight lifting and I don't think it would stunt growth unless you're like 8 years old and improperly deadlift or something like that.

There's a kid I know that lifts really hard and he's about 6'1" at 14 years old. I don't think it's stunted his growth.

I've lifted since I was about 13 or 14 and I got my growth spurt during lifting. I'm taller than my parents so I don't think lifting affected it.

You're probably done growing in height by 17, but I don't know.

I think you'll be fine.

ive never seen any research that supports the claim that weightlifting stunts growth. People used to say it, because they think it makes sence, but it doesnt. And studies tried out the theory, and proved it wrong.
Dont have any of the studies at hand though, sorry. But at 17 it isent exactly something to worry about.

I'm pretty sure the only way lifting can stunt growth is if the weight is so heavy that you damage a growth plate but I bet you wouldn't be able to do that even if you tried, the human body is very tough

I think Evo is the guy to ask about this subject, I seem to remember him contributing to many threads on this topic

there was some worry about growth plates in kids, but studies have shown it doesnt do any harm infact it is good,as long as the workout is good one. i had the study somewhere if i can find it i will put it up if not try pubmed.

I have been lifting for 2 years and over the time grown 5 or 6 inches and I know guys on my football team that have been lifting for 4 years and are over 6 feet tall. As long as you use correct form you should be fine

The only way I see it really causing harm is if you're really young (say, 13) and have softer bones, and you're constantly doing 1 rep maxes, which is a lot of strain.

even then, I'm inclined to think that you're not doing much weight in a 1RM unless you've been training a while. training is going to strengthen bones, so it stands to reason that even going out on a limb like this, you're hard pressed to do any 'real' damage, even to growth plates.
