Hello I am new here but have been reading this forum for a couple weeks. I am 6'2" 298 lbs I am trying to get down to 230 or 220 lbs. for a week I was dropping about 1 lb per day then today i went up three lbs I know you say to weigh once a week but losing one lb per day i was excited to get up in the morning and see that lb gone it was very motivating. this morning I weighed and I was up 3 lbs without much change in what i was doing. 1 week ago I was not excersizing grank 8-10 mt dews per day and would eat 1 meal a day dinner which i would eat a couple hours before going to bed. Now I am eating breakfast ( bowl of package oatmeal ) lunch 2 lunch meat sandwitches ) and dinner ( last night spagetti with sausage) 1 can of Mt dew with dinner and water all day. My excersize consists of 40 sit ups climbing flight of 12 stairs 10 times up and down 30 bench press @ 90 lbs then 3 sets of 15 arm curls @ 25 lbs per arm. I am fairly active not a couch tater no sports unless they involve an engine. Can you guide me to a better plan or is what i am doing ok for now I did lose 7 lbs as i said in 1 week but i found 3 of them this morning. I don't eat weeds or seeds so I am sure that complicates things. I do have a great motivator though over the last 2 years I built 2 beautiful Corvettes 1 was in a Magazine the other has won 3 trophies at car shows the problem is I don't fit in them very well and almost need a shoe horne to get out of them. your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Vetteset- welcome to the forum. Congrats on the weightloss so far. The body can do strange things when trying to lose weight. I am not an expert, but have had experience losing weight. The first pounds were likely water weight (something we all lose in the beginning), but this means you're on your way to a new, healthier you. Anyway, try sparkpeople.com- perhaps this can help you find a good diet plan for you. Also, I'm sure you'll get lots of other suggestions too. Good luck! :D

I'd first suggest entering your daily food into an online food journal like - so you can get a decent assessment of yuor daily calories - it's tough to fix someting you don't know you're doing.

No weeds or seeds? so that's no vegetables or whole grains or am I missing something? Vegetables and fruits add to a balanced diet and will get you to where youo want to be.

How many pops are you currently having a day? How much water? If your lunches c onsist of lunch meats - that's adding a lot of sodium to your diet and creates water retention and that could be weight gain.

welcome to the site - nicce to have you here

Welcome, Vetteset. I wouldn't get too worried about fluctuations like that. Look at my weight, for example:
Friday: 245.0 lbs.
Saturday: 245.5 lbs.
Sunday: 246.0 lbs.
Monday: 248.0 lbs.
Today: 243.5 lbs.

Big guys like us seem to fluctuate all over the map. The main thing to look at is a 5 day rolling average or a general trend line. Remember, a pint of water weighs a pound, and it's fairly easy to drop or retain 3 pints of water.
