Weighing yourself

Since weight tends to fluctuate throughout the day.... what is the best way to get an accurate "weigh-in"??

Time of day to do it at? Before eating? After exercising?

I'd say in the morning just after you wake up and preferably after you have gone to the bathroom (gross but true.) That way your stomach is empty and you'll get the most accurate reading. After exercising your body might be swelled up from fluids, so I wouldn't do it then. Anytime other than first thing in the morning before you eat your body will have food and fluids in it, which will seem to make you heavier.

Weighing yourself in shoes o_O

Well hello there sorta of another "Scale" Related Question

I always weigh myself without my shoes.
But I've noticed weighing yourself with your shoes on adds some weight to the scale, (about 3 -5 pounds) I've tested this on many scales, and I just wanted to know if this was true or I'm Crazy @.@

I'm really doing this for my father...not myself, because since hes got a prostesis he cant technically get an accurate weight because hes force to go on the scale with shoes.

For example...

I got on a scale (in the past ) said around 310 (without shoes) then again with shoes it read 314

Am I crazy ? XD

Nope, you're not crazy. For instance, my sandals weigh 1.5 lbs while my tennis shoes are 4 lbs. You could always weigh the shoes separately.
For accuracy, it's best to weigh one way then stick with it, whether you have shoes/clothes on or not.

I always weigh myself with the least amount of clothing/shoes/jewelry as possible!!! I want to see the real weight. :)

I generally weigh myself naked if I can, as Kaitie said. You'd be surprised how much weight clothing can add. For instance: I weighed myself with sweats and sneakers on, and I found I had gained 4 pounds, after taking it all off, I had actually lost 5 pounds.

Okay, okay, I admit it... I weigh myself naked, too. I like trying to see the lowest weight possible. :)

Shoes (thick sneakers and boots) and jeans add on the most weight. Jewelry can even add a pound (my metal watch weighs about .5 pound). Even bras and a tee can pack it on. Naked (or undergarments only) gives you the most accurate weight.

Your pop may want to weigh his shoes and prosthesis alone before he weighs himself. Then all he needs to do is detract their weight each time. If possible, he should probably wear the same shoes, too, as different shoes have different weights (or he can get different weights for his different shoes).

Okay.. so I know most people don't weigh themselves that often, or do they? Don't you ever have one of those "I feel like I'm on this diet for nothing" days? I don't want to weigh myself everyday to get discouraged but I would like to see the scale move for motivation.. Any suggestions?? :)

I say once a week, but I have ignored that rule and I have been weighing myself everyday. lol. Whatever you want to do... but I say once a week because if you do it everyday you may notice the scale going up and down and it will discourage you.

hi all,
i find that weighing myself makes me depressed. i feel like i am fighting a losing battle. i did get rid of my at home scale. i found it too tempting to get on it. only to start the cycle of overeating and depression. mann, i am tired of this.

I weigh myself everyday (sometimes twice). It's definitely not for everyone, but I've gotten used to the fluctuations and don't mind.

I say that I am going to weigh myself once a week.

My day is Monday, bright and early first thing in the morning.

From what I've read it's important to weigh around the same time everyday. The pull of the moon and gravity or what not.

I have to fight the temptation to weight myself everyday. I want to see the progress too. All this hard work! But I get really down if I see a fluxuation, so it's best if I stick to the once a day.

Also, I haven't noticed a big difference on the scales, but my clothes are fitting a little better. Honestly, I don't care how much I weigh, I'd just like to be smaller.

The real indication for me is extra room in my previously snug jeans!!

I weigh myself daily, sometimes twice. I find it very interesting just to know how much difference things like water retention make to my overall weight.

The pull of the moon is not relevant to your weight, but weighing at the same time wearing the same clothes (preferably no clothes) is the way to do it. I do it before breakfast but after I've relieved myself, first thing in the morning.

Definitely the belt line is the place to see real results! Pants I couldn't fit into a couple of months ago now won't stay up without a belt, but the weight from the scales is easier to track than some sort of clothing based number!

I'm terrible with weighing myself. I probably do it 5-6 times a day. Even if my weight does fluctuate, I still like to see it because I feel good about the pounds I've already lost. When I look at it during the day and it says 240, I'm happy it doesn't say 260+ anymore.

I've heard that you really should only do it once a week and have even thought of a housemate hiding the scale, but I'm wayyy too curious.

I think the best solution is to weigh every day but only consider the weekly average. Weigh at the same time wearing the same thing and write it down, then at the end of the week add it all up and divide by 7. Many people say to only weigh once a week due to fluctuations, but think about it, it's the same thing. If your weight can fluctuate between one day and the next and not be accurate, then it can fluctuate between one day and 7 days from then and not be accurate. The average is what you're after. Personally I will never weigh unless it's right after I take a big dump in the mornings. :D

I weigh constantly.. I'm addicted!

i don't weight super constantly, but i may go back to everyday, b/c for me (and this isn't for everyone) it helps me to see where i am..even if it is water or whatnot...it keeps me going. if i'm down a few pounds, i'm motivated to kick it up and go down some more..if i'm up a few pounds..i'm motivated to kick it up and get back down.

the only exception for me is during my cycle, b/c i know i'm prone to say forget it all if i go up, so i try not to weight as much during this time!

also - i wanted to say that i have daughter named jordan, as well! and kaylin!

I do it naked, no shoes or anything but it does add a lot of weight if you do it with shoes and clothes!! Shoes alone 1-5lbs!

I weigh myself with shoes on at Curves. I started out weighing myself with shoes, so I'm gonna continue. I guess this means that I weigh less than I do! Wahoo.
