Weighing my options...help!

Alright, so I know that it is better to workout in the morning before eating anything in order to burn more calories. However, my work schedule makes it much easier for me to workout around 3 or 4pm. And I find I have much more energy at that time, I pedel much faster (on the stationary bike), and can go for longer than in the morning. So my question is this: Is it more effective for losing weight to workout in the morning without eating beforehand, at a lower intensity, or is it more effective to have a stronger workout in the afternoon, but after a few meals?

(My stats, in case they are relevant to my question, 20 years old, 143lbs, 5'5". I want to lose around 10-15lbs)

THANKS!!

This is not based on any scientific knowledge but I would think that the afternoon session would be better for you. Since it fits in your schedule better you KNOW you're going to get your workout done and since you have more energy the workout will be more effective. Just my opinion...

Well if you mean doing a cardio workout before eating anything, that is a topic that is debatable. some folks feel it works for them, others have different opinions. Now if you are talkin about weight training on a empty stomach, I don't that is advisable. You should eat before weight training. But as you said , you have better workouts later in the day after a few meals, so I think you amswered you own question :)

Oops .. sorry teresa I didn't realize I was posting on this the same time you were

Awesome, thanks. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't wasting my time by working out in the afternoon...and that all that talk about cardio before eating wasn't too serious a setback.

Some think that when you exercise after a meal, you are only burning the energy from that previous meal, and that you burn more "reserved" calories on an empty stomach. Not sure if it's true...

No you don't burn more calories, the calorie is a measure of energy. Some people hold that you will burn a larger share of your calories in the form of fat if you do cardio on an empty stomache
