Weigh Ins

When you weigh yourself do you prefer a certain time of day? Do you weight yourself fully clothed? Also, how often do you weigh yourself?

I weigh every day, first thing after going to the toilet, naked.

I place the scales in exactly the same place on the floor.

I get on and off the scales lots of times until I get three identical weighings - they seem to wiggle about by fractions of a pound but I take it that the first three identical ones must be best...

First thing in the morning if I remember, I weigh myself in my birthday suit, and I've so far resisted the temptation to step on the scale (I'm aiming for once per week, daily just stresses me out if I see a gain).

I weigh myself once a week, naked, on Sunday morning right when I get out of bed and after going to the toilet.

Once a week, Saturdays to be exact, after waking up and using the bathroom, naked, in exactly the same spot every time.

Once a day naked after my morning shower.

Although....
I weigh myself rarely while pregnant, I just can't deal with what I see as I get in so much trouble at my gyno visits that I don't want to prepare for the telling of. I'm expecting them to be angry but try and forget about it till the day.
The gynos here in France can be really nasty about weight gain during pregancy, I've left and then been in tears many times.
....., sorry, I can easily get distracted with a rant about living in Paris.

I'd tell them to sod off. It's your body, and if you put weight on, that's your issue, not theirs. As long as you and your baby are healthy, that is the main thing. Tell the gyno to back off - they might be doctors, but they still have no right to make you feel bad about yourself.

I would love to tell them to sod off but with the language not being my own its harder to express things like that, I just end up nodding and trying not to cry (hormones make it that much worse)
All my friends have had the same issues with their gynos also.

The other day when he was hassling me about weight I mentioned I was drinking loads of full cream milk as it helps with heartburn and makes me feel better in general.

Him: why do adults drink milk?
Me: I don't know? (Kinda thrown of guard)
Him: Exactly! Milk is for babies not adults! (In a tone that suggested I needed a naughty corner visit)

And yes, I've put on 30 kgs,
nearly at the end now but we are both healthy and fine.

Okay, I can see how the language would be a problem, but my answer to the question would have been 'That is none of your business. You're a gyno, not a dietician, so stick to what you actually here for.'

I've had problems with doctors and I know arguing with them is not easy, especially in a foreign language (English is not my native language either). Try to keep in mind that it's not just you - the doctors there just seem to be idiots. And it's almost over, so you won't have to put up with them much longer. Keep hanging in there. ((hugs))

Thanks, I only have one more visit before my due date but am hoping I will have given birth and can skip it :D
They are idiots. I think its just harder with pregnancy hormones to keep your emotions in check, I normally don't let people like that effect me.
French in general are obsessive about weight. I was 86kg when I first arrived here 9 years ago, I was in for a shock at how people will openly tell you your fat and over weight.

I wouldn't have guessed from your posts that English is not your native language. It my native language and I think I make more typos than anyone here :blush5:

Fingers crossed that you'll be able to skip it. :) And I heard that the French are obsessed with weight, but I didn't know that it stretched to pregnant women...sheesh. Talk about overdoing it!! And 86 kg....I would KILL to make it to 86 kg. Well, okay, maybe not, but still....that's about my dream weight. :)

I think that's because it is not my native language though. I had to learn everything from scratch in English classes, and got in trouble when I got it wrong, so that kind of stuck. Guess having a horribly annoying English teacher who tortured me for 4 years solid was good for something after all....;)

Yep, their obsession goes as far as pregnancy. I think the limit here is 12kg gain during pregnancy. My friend (english) recently got a telling off, she's past her due date and has put on 20 in total.
Makes the woman here hard to get to know as they obsess over weight which makes them competitive with other females. Thin woman who maintain the weight sometimes won't even order a dessert on a special occasion out at a restaurant. "Need to fais attention" they say.

86 is over weight for me, I'm currently 90kg and my goal after the birth will be to drop 30 kgs. Imagine, pregnant full term and only 4 kgs heavier than I was 9 years ago.
The highest I was after my first diet here was 78 kg excluding both pregnancies.
My perfect weight is 63/65 kgs.

I just did the conversion, that's roughly 12 kg, perfect for France.
Funny though that for your midwife it was low and for France that's the limit.

They are just so rude about it, I really feel like a 5 year old being scolded for stealing a cookie the way they do it here.
One woman even stood on the scales after me and said "oh, it does work"
After I told her my weight she thought it was broken cause I shouldn't weigh so much :(

This may be too late now, but I weigh myself everyday naked first thing in the morning. I also weigh myself usually around 3 times (within 5 minutes or so) cuz my scale sometimes gives inconsistent numbers :p If I get the same reading 2-3 times I'll take that as my best bet. Best case use the toilet first, but if I do so shortly after I weigh myself again, if only to make myself feel better by the slightly lower number lol.

I don't know if this is the best way. Sometimes I feel like once a week same time every week is a better way to go... I sometimes obsess over daily changes which is silly and pointless.

I would've never guessed it was exactly the same thing happening to someone else, I always place my scale on the same place otherwise it may have problems and I always have to do 3 tries to make sure it's the most accurate result.
